Week 4by chris48083Comment: You have certainly made the whites to "dance" in the darkish rendering of "Ye Old Typewriter Keys..." To that aspect, it is an excellent photo. Now, as to personal preference, I would have liked to seen the word, Redo, a little sharper, and the over-all a bit lighter. (However, I do confess that lightening this could have had the adverse effect of increasing the high-grain content.)
Two possibilities: Even at this F-stop, I think the over-all would be acceptably focused, if you set the auto-focus on the word, Redo.
Secondly, when I see high-grain photos, the cog-wheels of mind start to buzz wondering, "If this were my photo, how could I minimize the grain?" (So much of my commentary is merely "out-loud processing" that you can easily "take or leave." When I comment on photos, I am always trying to grow as a photographer. If I actually say something that helps you or somebody else, then I...am...thrilled!) As to the actual suggestion, I guess that I would try to highlight the keys using Magic Wand, Polygonal Lasso, or even Magnetic Lasso, and then select inverse to highlight the background. Once highlighted, I would "play around" with Guassian Blur or even Blur Tool, if I didn't want the blur to be too even over-all.
Bottom Line: You obviously have the "eye" of a photographer! Never allow your patience to "wear thin" in the intensely technical world of digital photography! Much success to you! :) |

01 Misty Flightby SandyPComment: Nice minimalism! A hint of a waterfall to the right,...low contrast,...very impressionistic with the exception that the subject is in focus. Kudos!
I think if you took the brightness to the extreme in this one, you would probably have a joke that I heard in my childhood. (No reflection on your photo, of course. You have done this well. I'm simply commenting on the low contrast scenario.)
Joke: Child brings art teacher the same white sheet with which he started. When the teacher asks why he hasn't started, he responds, "O, I'm finished! This is a flock of geese in a snow storm!" :}
(I, also, got a few impressions of a scene out of the 1980's movie, The Never-Ending Story.) |

Warehouse Door Detailby BAMartinComment: Very eclectic! Nice leading lines! The whites just "dance my eyes" from one side to the other. Kind of reminds me of photos I have seen on some of the blogsmy wife likes to read...They have a hogpog, scrap-booking feel to them. Good Job! :) |

The Hideoutby HipychikComment: This "plays" like an excellent "peek" into yesteryear! I can see this on a postcard with roughed-up edges and sepia finish for effect, or maybe even a rustic "hand-tinted" approach from the 1920's or 1930's...Excellent first photo! :)
O, BTY! My wife & I "looked-at-each-other" when we saw your user name...We thought you might like to read her blog. angeljoy-hippychick |

Metroby doc_gonzoComment: B/W photography at its best...Geometry! I guessed 800 ISO before I saw it listed...because of the high grain content. It's a harsh toss-up between...Don't Get the Picture Too Little Light & Get the Picture With Too Much Grain.
I'm guessing, but maybe 200 ISO at 4 seconds on a Bogen tripod (for sturdiness) would reduce the grain. (Low-Light & Night photography are my weakest,...So, this is merely out-loud processing. I hope something here sparks an idea for you.)
Snaps for courage to get great perspective & leading lines! :) |
