Day 23 - The Beach

It's been a few years since I've been to a beach. I especially like the color photos in your composite -- the top one really brings out that great blue sky, and the bottom one is a fun candid snap of the two of you.

Traffic is a drag. The only time I drive is when I rent a car. I think I'm a good driver (who doesn't?), but it is stressful -- especially coming back into the city.

Yes, there are other Austin people in this 50 day challenge -- that's how I learned about "Jo's". Be sure to check out the New York Times Frugal Traveler video profile on Austin. It's really fun.

What I like about this photo is how the sky is darker behind you than in front. It makes the photo seem menacing.

I'm glad you made the top 25, though I'd hoped to see you on the front page. I think this is a terrific photo and it was one of only three 10s I awarded this challenge. The toughness and intelligence can be seen in his face and you captured it well.

Sorry, bad joke, the truth is I was moved when I read that about the parents. It's a great portrait and the child's beauty is only part of it. Congrats on a well-deserved ribbon. I'm happy to have been one of your 10s!

Day 23, Eternal Flame

I wasn't able to catch lightning the few times I tried, either.

Great road and sky. I suppose the cropped version brings more attention to the flame, but I'm partial to the widescreen version myself. Maybe it's just the appeal of the water tower. Is that a grain elevator in the distance? Look at all the low buildings -- this really says "wide open spaces" to me!
