I like what you were trying to do. Based on the title, I think we can assme tht our focus should be directed to the eye, but the eye is not in focus (but rather the hair is.) JMO

A very nice shot of this girl. Nicely composed although the loss of the tail tip is a bit disappointing. IMHO, I think this shot is more about blurred background rather than a creative use of Shallow DOF. JMO

This is a wonderful image and something I would be proud of to have in my portfolio. The colours are great and the composition is beautiful in it's simplicity. This image, IMHO, is more about the background blur than it is about Shallow DOF. JMO.

A very interesting shot. I like the idea very much and the burnt matchstick is great against the orange. Personally, I find the blurry matchstick almost directly behind the focused one to be a bit distracting. Also, it feels like this might be just a touch to sharpened ... The white outline along the right side of the focused matchstick is a bit strong for my liking. JMO.
