Genetic Engineeringby autoolComment: I like how your photo makes a statement. Somehow I don't like the composition. The banana points out of the photo and even though you placed the pepper using the rule of thirds it's the paring to the right which draws my attention. I don't really know why. Anyway, lighting and focus are good. -stephan |

Kiwi by NitenComment: Very nice! Wonderful back lighting and a creative crop. A minor nitpick are the dark corners, but that doesn't distract. -stephan |

Hooked on Kiwiby bamasterComment: Very nice back lighting. Focus is also excellent. I don't care much for the hook but it's a nice twist. -stephan |

Spriteby FrooberComment: Beautiful back light photo. I like that the focus is on the waves and not on the girl. -stephan |

Castles and Shellsby MiekaComment: Uh oh. I would really like to hear why you tilted he camera. It's not good in this case I think. The calm light (sunset) is somehow working against the chaotic influence of the tilt. I think if the photo weren't tilted it would be one of my top favourites. Anyway, good lighting and focus. I like the contrast of the blue/red of the toys and stones. -stephan |

Carefree by mcmurmaComment: Very good. I know how difficult it is to phorograph bubbles in the sky. It's good that you chose a more narrow DOF. That way I can see some depth and that some bubble are nearer than others. Good work! -stephan |

Ticonderoga Cutting by mcmurmaComment: Very nice idea! The green leaf is a good addition to the yellow pencil. Good composition, lighting and focus. Good work that the glass shows (almost) no reflections from your light source. -stephan |

Pencil-Necked Geekby ClubJuggleComment: Wasn't there a song from Weird Al Yankovic (sp?) about pencil necked geek? Funny :-) The photo is not very interesting though... E.g. a less busy background wouldn't distract so much from your subject. -stephan |

Rest In Peaceby David EyComment: Nice idea. But the lighting is not so good. Flash is (in my opinion) a very bad light source. A desktop lamp casting its light from a lower angle and from the side would make this photo much better I think. It would give the petals much more depth and the glare on the pencil would be gone, too. -stephan |

Pencil-vaniaby alanfreedComment: Oops. Actually I thought that it was a wordplay on Transylvania and the pencils resemble lots of peg's (these things which are used to kill vampires). The framing by green wood somehow backed that up (in my weird mind). I think a lot of people had problems recognizing this as the state Pennsylvania because they aren't from the US. |
