[Jun. 30th, 2011 09:20:11 PM]

For the last couple of years, I've been hoping to get a shot of an osprey bring a fish to a nest. I've gotten a couple of shots that I've loved in that time, but there was always something that wasn't quite right with it.

Here's my take 1 shot:

This is a different nest. I found this nest while I was out a a local park volunteering -- checking bluebird boxes. There's a bluff across from the nest, so I parked on the bluff and waited.

This is cropped quite a bit. I used my 100-400 lens fully extended, and still had to significantly crop. I'd love to try a teleconverter some day!

It's been an incredibly happy score for the whole week. Terribly exciting, and I'm so glad that people are enjoying it.

I got about 40 chigger bites and 3 deer ticks while stalking the osprey nest, but it was worth it! (well... as soon as the bites stop itching, I'll think it's worth it... :)

Thanks for the votes and the kind comments!!

Teleconvertors suck. I bought two and each time was disappointed. They are unreliable, especially when using burst mode and you loose so much light that it's not worth the money. I have 2 and I never use them.

I think I just need to write a standard congratulations form and just start filling in the blank for the ribbon. Something like this:

Wendy, Way to go on your _________ ribbon!

Then I can just fill in the blank for each challenge.

A great catch but in one way I hate to say that .. it's as if you had no work in finding out where they nest, hunt and so on and to get such a good shot, you have no doubt done your home work .. so I revise that statement to - Fantastic capture!

Now that's an impressive improvement on the original as the original was such a great capture in the first place! But he is so much better composed this time and the green bokeh contrasts beautifully. Well done Wendy, this should do well.

Back to bump and to let you know this is my pich of the challenge.

Great Capture, I would have loved to see a hair more saturation/darkness in the background so the birds stood out a bit... great job!

Nice job Wendy. I voted this a 10, one of my top 3 shots then I decided to see if I could find the original. Your original was great but I really like how you changed the orientation and the subjects are close together. You take excellent wildlife shots, good luck.

Already voted, back to comment...WOW, I want to live where you live!!!!! I've already voted and not changing my votes, but now am trying to find the original to compare to. If I found the correct one (which is spectacular), then a couple of things I like in this photo. I love the green background. but mostly I like that the full wings are in frame. I also really like the wings in this position instead of out to the sides (don't know why, I just do). I really like this capture. If I am comparing to the wrong pic, then everything I said is still true :-) One of the favs.
