Challenge: Color Studio Portrait (Advanced Editing II)
Camera: Nikon D100
Location: Dining Room Hallway
Date: Jun 26, 2004
Aperture: f/2
ISO: 200
Shutter: 1/160
Galleries: Fashion, Portraiture
Date Uploaded: Jun 27, 2004

By no means a "studio" shot, but for what it is worth, I'm happy. I took this shot in my Dining room hallway with a 52 " bounce card. I waited for the light to come around to the north side of the house, and reflect off a hallway mirror. The light is then bounced off the card onto the model.

I could only take this shot between 5:30 - 5:45 P.M.

Taken with the Nikorr 135MM f/2.0 DC lens.

Very little neat image used here. This is mostly the Defocus Control of the Nikorr lens. Oooo.. The shadow on her neck ... I KNOW!

I expect comments.

This is a wonderful shot, very classic, clean and nicely done. The lighting is nice except for the shadows around her neckline and upper arm on the right. The hair on her face is also a bit of a no-no in the studio sense. The soft focus works well with this shot. A 7

Lighting: The lighting is a bit harsh, and it shows in the heavy contrasts (especially in the skin tones).
Pose: Pose is good, but the expression is not working with it for me. I would not have cut her right hand off with the crop.
Background: is clutttered.

Shape on upper left could have been removed, and there's something about the placement of the edge of the wall that shows at the upper right of her head. I would have tried to shoot from a slightly different angle or cloned or blended it during post procesing, to achieve the studio effect.
Otherwise, I really like the picture and the "soft" effect. The model is good-looking, too!

This looks like it could be a clothing ad. Nicely composed. The only thing that detracts in my mind is that either your is a touch harsh for the soft focus or the focus is a touch soft for the lighting.

This photo has a nice soft feel to it. The model seems relaxed. What bothers me in this picture is that a solid background would have been nicer.

Nice shot, a little too soft for my taste but nice shot.

Some of the highlights look a little over-exposed, but a good job holding detail throughout the dark tones.

It looks like you went for a soft focus here... but I think I have to disagree with that usage... the model's stance, her look, everything about her including the choice of colors (black and white and the red lipstick) all seem to give the opposite of a softness. Also might have been nice to see her standing against the pole maybe slightly to the side, as it looks like it is growing straight out of her head. I do like the black and white on her though... and the little amount of red is wonderful.

Nice job on this one. I am a bit distracted by the dark area in the top left, but aside from that, beautifully done. Maybe a tad too much gaussian blur, but not enough to sway my opinion. :o)

The soft focus doesn't help this in my opinion, but everything else is quite good.

Her eyes aren't quite in sharp focus and her lipstick kinda jumps out at me. Pretty girl, nice pose.

nice use of what looks like available light and soft focus

Attractive model - sassy pose. Your background - with the vertical lines top left and behind her head doesn't work for me. Lighting well done.

Very harsh lighting and out of focus.

I don't know what it is but I think if you sharpened it a little.

I like the idea behind the title, cool thought. I don't think it is out of focus, I think it is soft focus. Good capture of her pose.

Great job!
Likes: Soft focus, expression
Dislikes: Dark spot in upper left corner-it's distracting 7

Lighting is a little of both! I like the soft lighting that you have used but I think you should have maybe used a reflector to soften the shadows on her left arm and neck. I also like the angle that the light is at.

A little bit too soft for my taste, nice picture overall

Her lipstick is rather overpowering her face. I'd rather be focusing on her beautiful green eyes than her rather unnatural cool red mouth. Someone with this warm coloring should be wearing a warmer red or other earthy, spicy color. I think the focus is a bit too soft. She's an attractive model in a nice pose and her outfit is well put-together.

I like the hair and the face. The pose reminds a bit of a fashion-shoot, a bit artificial but still nice. The background really weakens the picture. Some bits are out of focus

Like it. Love the softness, the causal stance and the colors. 9 from me and good luck in the challenge.

This is nice - I think the crop is too tight on the top though. It feels off center and crowded . Her face should maybe be in the thirds place.

Lovely shot, especially as the model looks so relaxed and generally at ease.
