Actually, these are just small flames in the refinery, which are burning all the time, but the low clouds made this effect.

You know, I hang out with the press pack a lot doing photo shoots and it isn't unusual for several photographers to get the same exact shot given that many of us are bracketing and standing in the same place (taking several shots per second). I'd advise caution in calling someone a theif unless you have some stronger proof. The buren of proff is, afterall, on the accuser.

Fabulous image. . . . perfect.

Thank you all for the votes and comments :)

Most comments were about not making detailed shot of the disaster.
1. it was not disaster and if I'd made a detail, you would see that.
2. I tried a cropped version of this, but the whole sky is probably what makes the picture (I like how the burning sky fades).

The six point filter has a nice touch. The picture looks about 2.5 degrees off to the left...

I did not use any filter, it is just normal effect from the aperture of the lens. (I used f 8) And the picture is straight, I rotated it according to the chimney in the middle, it is just a curve of the river (I was on bridge over the river).

Nice job, even if you had to stretch it for the viewer =). Hopefully you don't actually publish this in a newspaper! lol

Very cool shot. I would have preferred a tighter crop so that I could see more of the action, but the water and sky do add a nice dramatic effect. 9

Gorgeous shot, but newspaper usually need something more closeup and detailed showing the actual site of a disaster.

I like this allot - it's a good shot you'd find on the front of any paper. The six point filter has a nice touch. However, newspaper photographers have ethics and are FORBIDDEN to change the picture - that 6pt would have gotten you fired :( The picture looks about 2.5 degrees off to the left - and it works great so long as everyone notices the shot is from a boat - you should have mentioned this this in your title to prevent misunderstandings. If you get tired of that 6pt you may want to change to a Tiffen HyperStar or VectorStar - would have given you a more dramatic effect with a new look - they are not inexpensive filters but can be found quite reasonable on ebay. Rated 10

Superb reflection & exposure. There's very little visible noise, and I can totally see this under a headline in a paper. The color is spectacular as well, good job

One of the best photos, but maybe it's too beautiful for conveying a disaster, but on the other hand it conveys the title well and I'll give it a 8, definately a ribbon photo IMO!

Impresive shot, might benefit from a tighter crop, and some work on the headline. Maybe "Dozens injured in refinery blast". I'm guessing that this is a very long exposure of a normal occurrence at this plant. Nice work.

Beautiful picture.Perfect exposure and focus. My only complaint is that the headline seems lacking in authenticity. Good work.

awesome shot! having said that it really doesn't focus on the disaster.

Very nice photo but I don't think it would be newspaper material. I think there should be more focus on the explosion. If it was a picture during daylight showing black clouds then this would be a perfect photo.

Damn you, why can't I take photos like that.
2 minutes later....
I'm still thinking how ? But also Woow. .:10:.

it's a beautiful picture, but it doesn't draw the attention at all to the "disaster", and thats what you would want in a newspaper picture

Really cool and definitely newsworthy. I think it would have lost that artistic touch if you zoomed in. So the reflections and clouds really add to the photo. 10

Good luck...
