I had just walked into the Central Square in Brussels when they lit up the tower for the evening. Lots and lots of people there so this is an attempt to shoot over most of them. Handheld, three exposures. Used Photomatix for the HDR bit then tweaked some in Photoshop.

[Sep. 20th, 2009 04:07:49 PM]

Here's the middle exposure, with levels and sharpening only. Also, another view with more of the building included. Quite the crowd was gathered and a number of bands were playing in the square that evening.

A beautiful capture! The evening colors are so very dramatic. Great job!!
(They had a tent set up in the middle of the square when I visited Brussels...I was really bummed. I really had to work hard to get a shot.)

The light in the tower is so warm & glowing to contrast with the mellow light on the church-well done !!!

Commenting as part of my Team Suck duties...

Very nice image, and another good example of how to use HDR for good, and not evil, in that your image has benefited from the increase dynamic range w/o adopting all the usual HDR cliches of haloing, black clouds/skys, grittiness etc.

I love the detail, colour and composition. Well done.

Super job of showing detail in all areas of the image. Super subject for this. Good job on perspective correction (or good use of tilt-shift lens). I would have liked to see just a bit of ground floor base, but I understand it's a tall spire. 9

Nice use of HDR to balance the lights from the cathedral and the colors on the sky.

I shall be rating this challenge by the following criteria:

1 - Not HDR in my opinion

3 - HDR is way over-done, in my opinion

5 - A reasonable use of HDR, but not a very engaging photo, in my opinion

7 - A reasonable use of HDR, and an engaging photo, in my opinion

10 - A fantastic use of HDR, and an out of this world photo, in my opinion

Great tones this brought out. It really glows. Composition seems a bit more shoved over than is my preference, I assume you were wanting to not leave out that gorgeous sky.

Nice. I'd tighten the top to see more buildings at the botton.
