This is an amazing loo (bathroom, toiletten, salle de bain) in Köln (Cologne) at an entirely too expensive eiscafe (ice cream joint) near the Dom (cathedral). Not only is the composition loosely based on a rule of thirds composition (well, more or less, isn't it?) but there is an incredible collection of things in threes going on here. Lights are in sixes or threes, sinks are three, six stall doors, etc, etc. But what is REALLY cool is something I couldn't quite photograph from this angle (and didn't want to upset anyone by shooting any further inside) - the stall doors are clear glass. Yes, clear glass, when the stall is empty. When you go in and turn the lock, a very bright light inside the stall shines on the door rendering it opaque when occupied. Neatest darn thing!! And the sinks were pretty cool, too - water runs across a large silver disk instead of out of a tube thingie. Very posh, very elegant, and only 50 eurocents after your way too expensive ice cream!

It'll flop scorewise, but hopefully at least two people will read these comments after the challenge is over and find it relatively amusing.

LOL! I ready your comments and I find them more than relatively amusing.

Hilarious, in fact. :) That clear glass is totally cool!

I gave this a 7.

lol - this is at an ICE CREAM place? Wow - I have to taste some of that ice cream lol. This is a gorgeous restroom! The glass stall doors sound really cool. I can only imagine the intense cleaning job they must do here to keep this looking so great. Great find!

It didn't flop with me. I gave it a high score. I think the image is very well divided on the rule of thirds. The only thing that could have been better for "rule of thirds" would have been to have a focal point, such as the flowers, on one of the intersecting power points. The urn at the end of the hall, and the flowers came close, but weren't on the mark. But I really like the geometry, rhythm, and light in this image.

Very nice room shot Deb. You did a good job on the perspective correction for such a wide shot. I like the darkness.

Threes threes threes! My impression of a good restaurant is often heightened by their loo - and I alway bring my camera in with me (even though I get looks)! Nice job for the theme too.

What a cool bathroom! I did read your notes and I see you had the foresight to answer my comment about the glass doors in advance. Thanks for the info.

I'll bet taking that picture raised some eyebrows... Lots of interesting diagonal lines, none of which led me to a thirds intersection.
