i took these shots from just outside our back door .. it was early in the morning and not fully light .. its two juvenile male kangaroos boxing .. i put five shots of them together in one image to show the way fight each other and how they put their heads right back to avoid the claws of the other kangaroo ..
they are totally wild and go thru our fences with ease ..
this is one of the originals to show how dark it was ..
I had similar scenes outside my backdoor when I was about 9-10 years old. I guess we kind of took for granted the presence of the kangaroos, in fact I loved watching my dog yip and chase after them, but there were always moments when she picked on one too big or her own good...I guess not too many people realise how dangerous these animals can be :P
This is a great shot... it has a time-lapse image kind of feel. Nice action!
I love this roz! It's so great how you put together a bunch of images like this, a chorus line of boxing kangaroos...I love the colors you endedup with too out of the underexposed images. Very cool!
Really interesting (and cool) shot. Good work pulling all the detail out of the darkness. Thanks for the information as to what they are really doing -- they still look like they are doing a carefully choreographed scene to me.
Next week I will be vacationing for a week at a folk dance camp. On first seeing this composition, I assumed the group of kangaroos were all dancing. Could make a good case for it, even without seeing the usual live band and caller, except perhaps for the one punch to the stomach. Guess that which would count as a bit harsher than stepping on toes. Sorry to see it as colflict instead of dancing, but fascinating to glimpse such an unusual bit of nature from your part of the world.
Those are about as rare around here as hen's teeth ;) They look kind of cuddly but I have seen Nature shows on TV showing how tough they are. I like the pair on the right. The one looks like he is standing on his tail!. Thanks for these images and your explanation.
