Challenge: I Quit (Basic Editing)
Collection: Portfolio
Camera: Canon EOS-40D
Lens: Canon EF 16-35mm f/2.8L USM II
Date: May 20, 2009
Date Uploaded: May 20, 2009

This is how I feel right now with a 5.3 on my Glamour entry that I worked so hard for. *sigh*

Tomorrow's another day, though... so I'm not quitting for good... just faking it for the challenge. *grin*

It's my old Nikon film camera. And, although I'm now a Canon Girl, I put soft cushy stuff in the bottom of the trashcan for the fall. :)

[May. 31st, 2009 09:17:45 PM]

For the DNMC crowd who lovingly gave me decent scores anyway, I could quit photography WITHOUT quitting DPC... and still vote. :)

Forgive me for using the technicality. :)

LOL @ Yo_SpiffToo

Oh yeah... Shooting this was a trial. I had the remote in my left hand and couldn't snap it quickly enough to capture the camera before it entered the trashcan. There was too little distance between my hand and the can. When I did capture it, my hand was too blurred.

So, I ended up with an upward motion to start the drop. Basically, I tossed the camera up a bit and then let it fall. That way my right hand was almost still by the time I clicked with my left hand.

Humm, that's sort of how I felt recently..however I'd have to throw a canon into the trash can, not by beloved Nikon D3. ;-)

Congrats on the Red!

Definitely well deserved...

Dunno I'd toss the camera, I'm more of a smash the modem guy. Then I could go back to playing in the small pond, where all my neighbors think I'm a good photographer.

Lydia, less than 4 percent of the voters likely agreed with k10dguy. Like I said before, life is rough at the top! There are always people looking to degrade accomplishments of others rather than be gracious.

Deb made a good point, this is a good background for a portrait.

Lydia, please! If I were to quit for my low scores, I would have been gone even before my first post!! LOL
And OUCH! Poor camera! If you don't want it anymore, I could make good use of it!!! LOL
Anyway, my true congrats to you, for your efforts and perseverance, but mainly for the great idea and shot!

See, now this backdrop behind your glamour shot may have worked very well! (Congrats on the ribbon, too, by the way.)

I would have voted it lower for partly-DNMC.

I'll be honest about that. Good thing I didn't vote I guess, but I would have given it a reactionary 3.

Why?

Because while yes, you can quit photography without quitting DPC, that's a bloody cop-out answer to me. It's like being told you can't use wine glasses in a still life, but then using a beer glass instead. It's staying too close to a comfort level because nothing else is hitting you creatively.

But hey, it worked, it ribboned, life moves on right? :)

I just wanted to throw in my support for the DNMC'ers. I'm with you people.

I'm sure it was the specificity of the challenge description:

Without the title it could refer to photography in general, but the reference to low scores seems to tie it directly to the DPC experience.

I didn't vote on this one, and that's not necessarily my own opinion of the shot, but it's how I'd answer your question.

Hi,
I am still new and didn't vote but if I had this seems to really get to the heart of this challenge....and it is so relative to all of us! Especially true when you try hard and just don't get what you either think is pretty good or you work and work and it's still now up to what you hoped for.
Thanks for a GREAT IMAGE for this challenge.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one being ridiculously anal about the challenge description. I gave it a 7. A sentiment that echoed with everybody, but really, anybody with a "too" on their screen name tends to do pretty well most of the time. As this entry proves. Can I change my screen name to "YoSpiffToo"?

I know the feeling. You might have slightly overdone the "gritty black and white" look on this one, however.
