Challenge: Curves (Classic Editing)
Camera: Canon PowerShot G2

Aperture: f8

Shutter: 1/640 sec

These arches are by the Pacific Science Center in Seattle WA. I've always been taken with their starkness against a blue sky. I was going to use a polarizing lens on this shot, but had just put it away and was cold. Instead, I used levels to get the effect I was looking for.

Outstanding picture, great colour and composition

Nice lighting! Interesting that the trees themselves are not very curvy at all!

nice mix of colors. a lotta curvs too. well done

Interesting framing effect created by the branches. The lack of perspective in this shot is also interesting.

Very eye catching. Why do you get the great weather?
04/11/2002 02:59:00 PM
Seems a bit busy with branches running diff directions, but I still enjoy this photo. 8

Outstanding entry for the curves challenge - the natural symmetry in this photo is awesome.

Nice curves, and great angle. I love the composure with the trees and the arches coming together.

Nice timing with the lighting & sky.

wonderful subject, lovely curves, superb pm lighting to warm the structure!

I really like the man-made curves framed by all those trees, it's a nice juxtaposition. The biggest arch could be slightly more symmetrical, though.

I like the lighting on the arches, and the trees help frame the photo, especially the way the two branches in the middle come to a point in the center of the frame. As a drawback to this, the left arch is cropped a bit harshly, but you can't have everything, right? Good depiction of curves

This picture would look good bigger.

interesting structure, the blue sky is nice also. The trees make it a bit busy for me, but I understand that you can't just cut 'em down to make a picture. :-)

nice, very nice. The nice blue sky makes it really work too, with the warm tones on the spires. This is from Seattle, right?
04/09/2002 03:25:00 PM
The tree branches in the foreground frame this shot nicely.
04/09/2002 03:18:00 PM
I like the lighting in this photo. I also like the way the trees look like they wrap around the art piece, almost like it is protecting it. Great picture and lots of curves for sure. :)

Excellent photo. The trees add a great contrast to it.
04/09/2002 09:54:00 AM
Great colors and curves! Nice job!
04/09/2002 07:27:00 AM
wow. this is a truly beautiful shot. the color combination is perfect. the hues and shadows and use of branch sihouettes is ingenious. how long did u take to plan this one?
04/09/2002 07:13:00 AM
The arches are cool and I think the branches add an erie touch.
04/09/2002 06:03:00 AM
I like how it looks like the branches are hold up the arches. great picture!
04/08/2002 09:37:00 PM
Nice shot, I like the lighting, the tree branches are a little busy though
04/08/2002 09:36:00 PM
beautiful! I love this!
04/08/2002 09:19:00 PM
Nice photo ...
04/08/2002 07:50:00 PM
interesting architecture. the trees are distracting from the overall impact of the image.
04/08/2002 04:15:00 PM
You've caught the light very well, and the leafless branches make it appear as though they are trying to encrouch upon the clean lines.
04/08/2002 04:09:00 PM
My hometown! Those trees look mean for some reason.
04/08/2002 02:35:00 PM
i really like the colors and subject of this photo, but something detracts from the overall effect. it might be the abundance of branches in the frame or maybe the fact that it's just too symmetrical. but overall, i like this composition.
04/08/2002 01:43:00 PM
These are some nice curves... I think the trees in the front of the image are taking away from your architecture curves just a little...
04/08/2002 08:36:00 AM
Great light, good framing. Strong entry.
04/08/2002 08:34:00 AM
Absolutely mahvelous! Beautiful interpretation and very pleasing to look at. My personal favorite.
04/08/2002 06:50:00 AM
Tripod, huh? :)
04/08/2002 05:36:00 AM
Great shot, good lighting, trees add a bit of mystery to the picture.
