On a business trip to Iowa (same trip where I took this) I had some time to kill so I went wandering down completely iced over country roads with my rental car (rear wheel drive with street tires). I almost wrecked trying to stop when I saw this place. I like this image more than 90% of the images I've ever taken. I hope others agree and that it does well in the vote.

Wow! My first ribbon and on a Free Study at that! I'm beside myself. Thanks to all for the votes and comments!

Regarding the sensor dust in the image: I was on the road when I edited and submitted this. My work laptop is all I had to use and the screen is crappy at best. I guess I wrote that spot off to one of the many marks on the screen. It wasn't until the very first comment in which the sensor dust was mentioned that I went to my desktop and looked at it. My heart sank. I am still ill about such a stupid mistake. Oh well, I guess I can't complain too much! :-D

Heck, I'll have to come up with some new goals now!

Great image. Congratulations on your ribbon and your whopping personal best! Looks like Iowa was good to you. I didn't notice the dust until I read your comments...I don't think it hurt ya. I got a blue ribbon once with a HUGE blob of dust so sometimes DPC will let a photographer be human...sometimes. :)

I really like this image because it made me smile. I like the sense of humor tucked away in it. With all that space, no trees, they cut away part of the tree to fit the house. :D

Congrats on a ribbon, an amazingly beautiful image, and one that you would fix if you could. Just goes to show that it was fantastic and you shouldn't worry too awfully much.
Keep finding them.

Great job... I never even noticed the dusty spot until now.

Beautiful image. I wouldn't beat myself up about the dust spot. I had to really look to find it. I bet it probably didn't affect your score a tenth of a point, if that much. Anyway you've accomplished 5 or more of your goals, all with one image. Congratulations!

I love the way the tree was butchered on the right side as it grew, yielding to the demands of the house. "Hank, go fetch your axe and cut off some of that tree, it's scratching our bedroom window when the wind blows." We never plant a sapling with a full realization of its mature size.

I wonder if they trim the branches of that tree for the house... It's a very nice looking photo, and it would be much better if tree had all the branches on right side :/

Cool framing. Mabey it would even have worked better if you would have flipped it Horizontal in rotate and made more negative space in it. 7

this is wonderful. except that little spot center left. something like that spot kills this pure scene. Well not "kills" but mars. I tried to wipe it off my monitor just in case it was my dirt. Couldn't remove it. Love this scene though. Why is there no backgound clutter? very nice indeed. 9 (10 without the spot)
