 Blue spotlight effect was simply a blurred circle I created in Photoshop. I placed my laptop (turned on its side to "portrait" orientation) behind the rope and displayed the "background" I created to accentuate the "breaking point".

The rope was "painted" (as in "painting with light") with a moving flashlight during the exposure.

Captured with the Canon 50mm/1.4 lens.

Every time I look at the background, the circle seems to shrink - a wonderful optical illusion.

I had come through and moved this to a nine from an eight:) I think I helped you beat me:) this was outstanding and worthy of a ribbon! Good job. Super idea with the laptop.

The idea is good and bang on for the challenge. The quality of the shot is also good, I just don't find this very interesting. I don't dislike it, please don't take my comments the wrong way. I see that you have been clever with the light and composition, but its not jumping out at me. ? Hope I have not been harsh, I don't mean to be. :) 8 from me.

Seems to scream holding on rather than letting go. Interesting idea though. The rope seems a little too yellow/orange.
