Lovely capture!

Such a great shot.
Life is all about the people, the reality of people and what we know and see in our daily lives. This is a great representation of just that - real life.
08/18/2006 11:18:36 AM
CLASSIC!!! i love this!!
06/17/2005 12:17:49 PM
What a great shot. It says so much without words. The turquoise backdrop is really well done and an unusual color which makes the figures pop out at you. The detail is well done. Way to go!!

Thank you everyone for the lovely comments. I wish I could take full credit for "finding" this couple, but my wonderful boyfriend saw them first, and handed me this opportunity. I really enjoy taking candid shots and they were just so adorable, all dressed up on Saturday afternoon, sitting at the Third St. Promenade, an open air mall, in Santa Monica, California. Just as I went to take the first shot, the old man got up....so, I had to wait, surreptitiously, to catch them, together. And, I liked this one the best, with him still putting his change in his pocket, while she is opening her sugar packet. They seem to be separated, yet they are very much together. Thank you all again for the wonderful votes and comments.

I'm sorry I didn't have the chance to comment while the voting was happening, but this is one of the best photos I have seen on this site. I actually caught my breath when I first saw it. Wonderful job and congratulations!

I think you captured the hearts of the voting community this week. Such wonderful feeling is tied up in this picture. I'd love to hear how and where you stumbled across this scene. This would have been a good candidate for #1 but I have to admit giving you a 9 and the old woman a 10. Sorry. (The ONLY 9 and 10 I gave this week)

Congrautlation on this well deserved award.

09/08/2002 11:12:00 AM
My only 10 of the week, it took me a while to decide but i finally did. It's clear, crisp and vibrant. I really like something about this photo. Good job and good luck ;-)

Wow. Awesome color and his expression is great. 8, just-married
09/07/2002 10:36:00 AM
I think this is one of my favorite shots that I have seen. The colors and subject matter are great. Technically this photo is excellent. I wouldn't be surprised seeing this in a gallery at some gallery or museum. The subtle shadows, the look on their faces is excellent. One very very minor suggestion I would try is dodging the womans face (I understand spot editing is not allowed for this particular site but for your own photo I would see if it gives an improvement)
09/07/2002 04:15:00 AM
Great frame, colour, expression. Wonderful.
09/06/2002 07:47:00 PM
great candid! quality pic. 10
09/06/2002 06:45:00 PM
Good photo. I don't know what to say, I don't really see anything all that "wrong", but I'm not excited either (low "WOW" value). Still, the photo is well taken and seems to be close enough to the challenge. 8 Swash

What a great shot. One of my tops for the week. 9.
09/06/2002 01:32:00 PM
I don't know what it is about this picture I like so well. Probably because it brings up so many questions. Is this couple husband/wife or brother/sister? They look so much alike. Definately a candid shot. I like the background. Picture is crisp and clean.
09/06/2002 11:17:00 AM
Nice candid shot - grumpy with nothing to do! Hope I don't get that way.
09/06/2002 08:38:00 AM
super, super, suuuuper!! 10 (manolo)
09/06/2002 08:36:00 AM
Cant help feeling that there were better moments to take this pic, such as when their postures were reflecting each other. The sticks betwen knees is a good start. Could be framed a bit lower, and keep the camera level. One of the more interesting shots this week.
09/05/2002 10:33:00 PM
excellent shot 10 sgtpeppa

I absolutely love this! Great color, very sharp, and wonderful expressions on your subjects. Makes you want to know their story. This is a 10. Kaz

I Love this photo. These are moments that we are looking forward too.
09/05/2002 12:07:00 AM
This is an EXCELLENT candid photograph. I love the contrast of the rollup door in the background against the gray of the clothes and the stark white table. This photographer has a good eye. Good composition as well.
09/04/2002 11:32:00 PM
Colors are excellent and love the old couple
09/04/2002 10:14:00 PM

This shot really meets the challenge. Probably the best I've seen yet.
09/04/2002 02:19:00 PM
This is a very cool picture. Cool in the sense that I like it a lot and also the cool color temperatures. It's well framed and easy to look at and get drawn into, as if it were telling a story. Plus, even though there is a large turquoise background, no one part of the image is overpowering to me. The man's face is a thousand stories in itself. Wonderful capture.

Excellent poses and subject matter. Love the colour too. 9 - floyd
09/03/2002 04:48:00 PM
Why are these two at the same table, while they don't seem to have anything together? Strange picture, good shot, but leaves too many questions to make an interesting story.
09/03/2002 03:45:00 PM
What a great shot! I really like the colors... or lack of!

The best. Color, composition, attitude, everything. AWESOME. Can I get a print? :)
09/02/2002 11:48:00 PM
What makes the picture great is wonderful color, the great setup and the "beauty of aged people, which always gives a certain feeling to a picture.

Wow! Perfect composition, focus, color.

09/02/2002 05:03:00 PM
good use of color
09/02/2002 04:48:00 PM
A very interesting kind of "day in the life" photo. Neither of them look very happy, do they?? This photo seems to have a certain "sadness" to it. Nice job of capturing a moment. lhall-8
09/02/2002 04:35:00 PM
What a great candid! I love the expression on the man's face. And I just love their matching canes. This picture really tells a story to me...I wonder how long they have been married, how she hurt her leg, what the man is looking for in his pocket...just a great job! You know, I personally think that it may be more dramatic in black in white...but maybe not...you may want to just try it and see. -KrazyKat
09/02/2002 02:24:00 PM
I'm giving this a 10. I just love the color of the background and their expressions. Good exposure. ~indigo997
09/02/2002 01:09:00 PM
love the blue!! great candid!! wish they were drinking coffee.....7--shutterfly
09/02/2002 12:29:00 PM
I love this shot - brilliant! Their expressions and poses are perfect - the fact that it's slightly skewed and not quite centered makes it look much more candid, too. I'd love to see a series of shots of this couple against that backdrop ... I bet there'd be other contenders in the series. Well done!
09/02/2002 11:37:00 AM

Beautiful composition -- nicely balanced and the background color is very effective. This photo really draws me in and I want to keep looking at it to try and figure out what these people are doing. 10 LanSnake
09/02/2002 05:31:00 AM
First class shot. This, for me, is what this challenge is all about. This shot has it all; it tells a story, composition is superb, it's sharp and the expressions on the faces are truly wonderful. It's one of the hardest challenges- in my view- that we have had thus far and you have excelled… (10++) Good luck – if you need it…
09/02/2002 03:15:00 AM

So far this is my only "10" -- super job! I love the expression on the guy's face, the background color is unique, and it's a sharp, well-composed image. And it meets the challenge perfectly. If this isn't in the top 3, I'll eat my hat. Great work!
