 A lovely sunny afternoon in Wiesbaden. I sat on the bench opposite these gentlemen and shot them for awhile. The one in the middle knew what I was up to - the other two never noticed as far as I could tell. I suspect these guys occupy this bench on a fairly regular basis.

It will be interesting to see if anyone notices that there are actually three pigeons in this picture...

My other option for this challenge was taken just to the right of where I was sitting. I'll stick that one in my portfolio after the challenge.

Post processing - used a method to convert to B&W that Timfy told me about, using two hue/sat layers (100% desat on the top one, adjustments in lightness to hues on the bottom one) and a selective color layer underneath for minor adjustments as well. I suspect it would pretty much look the same had I used the channel mixer, but it's always good to try something new. Smart sharpen, resize, add border, save. Also cloned out a hose under one gentleman's foot.

(The extra pigeon is in the planter beside the gentleman with the "to do" list, just to his right and partly behind him.)

well seen & excellent in B&W! love the seeiming ease with which these guys while away the day...I agree with your suspicions, that these guys convene here on a regular basis; nice to have the companionship, I imagine :)

This photo ages well - I think because the 3 guys are all concentrating on different things. (Is it my monitor? Can ever so barely make out that fragment of pigeon 3).

Great score and a terrific placement. Funny I actually like "Your hair is fine" and "In Color" more though (a lot more). Being honest, I really wasn't a fan of this picture. Don't get me wrong, it is a good shot. I like the exposure, a good use of the frame, good depth and sharpness, and great textures. The expressions are wonderful and I like how the guy in the middle kind of stands out compared to dress and expression. I can see why this photo did so well for you. I think my problem is I "personally" can't relate to the photo and really has nothing to do with the photo itself. Congrats again!

Love this photo! Gave it a high score, as did a lot of other people, by the look of that finish :-) Not only is it a brilliant photo, but the title is marvelous. BTW, you beat the master himself, Henri. (Did you see that thread?)

This was one of my "silent sevens" and in a challenge with fewer brilliant entries it would have gotten a higher score AND a comment from me. Great capture. The connection between the one man and the pigeons is palpable. It kind of makes you wonder if the other two men are pigeons.

The first thing that comes to mind, is "how cute!" which probably isn't what you want to hear! But really, it's a great photo. I love the reactions on the faces, especially the man on the right looking at the pigeons. It really brings a smile to my face.

i think if this was to be retaken i would cut the bottom sction with the birds and focus on the three guys playing cards. i think it looses something due to not being cropped tight enough. good effort though

Wonderful capture. The men don't seem to be relating with one another, yet, they appear comfortable in company. Makes one wonder. Are they family? Two brothers out for a stroll in the sunshine with their father perhaps? Friends enjoying a brief moment of reminiscence? Just marvellous. Elegantly converted to b&w too.

I can almost see what each is thinking about: the fellow on the left is checking his lottery ticket, the one on the right is watching the birds, and the man in the middle is trying to see what you were up to! Nice photo.
