Good use of black and white. Maybe compose it differently to create some emotion or set a more interesting context...

6 letters - also 'crayon' in french! 148k pic not sharp, maybe your camera spec' inhibits you, also direct flash with blur almost impossible to achieve - must be focus problem - will be interesting to see what you have shot this with.

Certainly appropriate for the challenge. This is a well layed out image. The focus seems a bit soft to me. Lighting is good.

Reminds me of my grandpa. he was always doing puzzles. Great idea and great angle. The lighting is good and there is nothing distracting. It looks like you might have tried a tad bit too hard on getting the pencils in the photo. This is just an opinion, but a few less pencils would have worked just as nicely, and wouldn't have made the top right corner look so busy. An added not, I just noticed that the line across the top of the puzzle book, where the Date is, looks like it is the shape of a pencil too. Cute. Nice job and good luck in the challenge.

This is a good composition, but I believe the lighting may need a little assistance. It looks like you may have used the flash in this photo because of the hars shadows and the brightly lit foreground. The photo could also probably use a little extra sharpness as well. :) - jmsetzler

good title, good idea, but unsharp photo. i an wondering whether the original was unsharp or whether this happened in post-processing. i'm intrigued why you didn't use one of the light-colored pencils for the crossword puzzle to make a connection between that pen and the ones in the basket. i also feel that the photo is just a bit cluttered, maybe a plain background instead of the table cloth would've helped. -- gr8photos (3)

I like this but like it even better cropped so the bottom half only is shown as a landscape picture, without the basket and sleeve.

I've seen several other images with the same crossword puzzle theme and this is not my favorite one. The overall effect is a little snapshotish, sorry for saying that. I'm sure you tried hard. The composition could have been improved (the left arm andhand) and a bit more attention to details paid: the table cloth should have been straightened or totally removed since there is already so many elements in the picture. Never give up! 4 Journey

When I first looked at the shot, I thought switchingto B/W didn't really add to the photo. As I scrolled down to add my comments I happened to crop your photo in such a way that the pencil basket in the supper left was no longer there. I had just the crossword puzzle and the hands. It was a stronger photo that way, I thought. Perhaps, the original is large enough to crop it wide instead of long. 6
