Most people aren't going to catch the significance of the title on this pic, but so be it. The LDS (Mormon) Temple in Salt Lake City is adorned with carvings of the sun, moon, and stars -- they serve as symbolic refence in the LDS faith. You can see a number of the suns in this picture -- two are located about 1.5 inches from the bottom of the picture and to either side of the large window -- they look like a small circle carved inside a square. Closer up, they look like a traditional sun with the diagonal rays around the circumfrence of the circle.

When I saw the moon in the shot, and then the star came out -- and since the "sunset" was still visible -- it was too good to pass up.

Minimal rotation to get the building perfectly vertical. Some cropping to tighten up the composition. Levels adjustment. Unsharp mask.

I think its a great shot

Wasn't this in my book of Temple Square pictures?

It's beautiful, and the symbols are perfect, from their clarity, to their placement in the shot. Just marvellous in every aspect.

Aside from the symbolism, the SLC temple is one of the most beautiful structures I've ever seen. Being there yesterday for my brothers wedding, I was blown away by it like I never have before.

This was definately a ten! The timing to get all of these elements together at the same time, it's just a fabulous package of great stuff! (Did I say I really, really like this shot?)

wow! patella, you've done it again. i've always loved your artwork, but your pictures of the salt lake temple blow me away! and i love the symbolism in the title and picture. in a word: awesome!

This is a beautiful picture! I was married in that Temple! I need to visit Temple square more often! Great Job!

very nice, but i'll nitpick the use of the word 'star' - that bright dot is actually the planet Venus - which IS sometimes referred to as the 'evening star', so i guess i'll shut up now :)

I'd like to visit that building someday.

the top spires with the lights and the moon in the sky are teh best part of this image. the lower parts with the tree is not nearly as interesting.
07/21/2002 05:58:00 PM
Color:very good; composition: regular (a little bit far and too centered)
07/21/2002 05:48:00 PM
I just lost the mini-competition of "majestic archtectures"! Very nice.
07/20/2002 11:25:00 PM
One of my favorites!

Yet another one of the great shots in this challenge. Simply amazing.

Very nice. I like the colors in the sky, and the symmetry that this piece has. The lighting is great, and I like how you captured the star and moon.
07/20/2002 09:39:00 PM
lovely
07/20/2002 08:36:00 PM
More likely sun, moon, planet, but well-done anyway.

Nice photo
07/18/2002 08:48:00 AM
almost looks eerie; then again, it has a Cinderella castle look even though it's a church; nice lighting, artificial and natural
07/18/2002 08:15:00 AM
Nice symetrical composition. The Moon adds interest with its asymetrical position.
07/17/2002 11:00:00 AM
wow..who could ask for anything more in this photo! 10
07/17/2002 10:46:00 AM

07/16/2002 11:49:00 AM
very nicely done.
07/16/2002 11:16:00 AM
Sorry, I was one who left a comment about tilt. I understand now about the lens distortion, I am still in the process of learning this stuff. I also gave you a very nice score when I voted because this is a wonderful image.
07/16/2002 09:59:00 AM
Great symmetry and I especially like what the moon adds to this shot. I think the building could be a little sharper. It seems like the focus is *just* off - but maybe that's just me. Other than that, a great shot.
07/16/2002 08:54:00 AM
Beautiful, but tilted to the left a bit. Level this out, and you have a nice photo.
07/16/2002 02:18:00 AM
Very nice lighting. You did a great job of making both the sky and the building come out, which is often hard to do. I like the star and moon a lot.
07/16/2002 12:26:00 AM
well lit shot ;)
07/15/2002 10:40:00 PM
outstanding. very nicely done.
07/15/2002 08:54:00 PM
Excellent how the moon and the star put the cherry on the pie.
07/15/2002 08:40:00 PM
haunting

Lovely photo.
07/15/2002 06:55:00 PM
very pretty
07/15/2002 06:53:00 PM
My only change would be the tree on the left. It's just distracting. However, this in one more beautiful photo !
07/15/2002 05:58:00 PM
Extra points for just being there at the right time and seeing it.
07/15/2002 04:52:00 PM
Fantastic!! What an eye, what a catch! Well done. Kee
07/15/2002 04:31:00 PM

07/15/2002 02:53:00 PM
Moroni couldn't have been better placed if you'd set the temple down especially for this shot. Excellent eye!
07/15/2002 02:46:00 PM
This is such a beautiful photo - postcard material ;) I love the lighting on it, I wish that tree was gone in lower left, the pumpkin carriage (Cinderella) is the only thing missing. :) ~ Good job. cthenk
07/15/2002 01:53:00 PM
It's just ever so slightly tilted...but a very nice pic
07/15/2002 12:52:00 PM
I love it!
07/15/2002 11:27:00 AM
I really like this!

07/15/2002 03:02:00 AM
That's not a star, it's a planet :) Great shot!!!
07/15/2002 01:30:00 AM
If only the star was perfectly aligned, like the moon
