Some comments : It is hair (not a wig, not an animal!) and it's a shot of my wife, lying on a white board. About the right hand side truncation - that's where her shoulders are... I know a lot of people hated it, but it was required for the shot.

also the exposure - again required to 'white out' the skin of the face.

What kind of placement is this? Jeez. This photo got a 9 from me (can't believe I forgot to come back and comment on it). The only thing that kept it from being a 10 is that I wish that I could have seen just a *hint* more of her facial structure, but who cares, it is still an awesome photo and should be in the top rankings!

Is this hair still attached? I can't tell!
07/21/2002 07:13:00 PM
Very interesting. I like the white background, but I think it feels a little too chopped off on the far right. If more was cropped/framed out, it might feel intentional to me, because I think this picture would also look good with a wide left "margin" and "flowing" out of the frame on the right.
07/21/2002 03:53:00 PM
looks odd... i wonder what this would have looked like not overexposed?
07/21/2002 01:08:00 AM
very dramatic and good composition
07/20/2002 09:59:00 PM
I hope your model didn't get whiplash!
07/20/2002 06:39:00 PM
I like the effect but I would prefer a different crop to it. I don't like the top right of the hair to be cut off.
07/20/2002 05:48:00 PM
Nice idea
07/20/2002 02:01:00 PM
Different and creative. Cool image. I like this a lot. Great work!
07/20/2002 09:23:00 AM
Love the negative space. Would have been a 10 if you hadn't clipped the rhs!
07/20/2002 02:18:00 AM
AHH!!! THE 80'S ARE BACK!!! NO!!!
Just kidding! the only real problem I notice is It's simply way too bright
Keep up the good work: -7

Hair? Interesting.
07/19/2002 03:58:00 PM
Very impressive photo. The simplicity of colors and the composition is superb.
I'm pretty sure you gonna get a lot of comments about the "hair-cut" at the right edge. Well, here's another one: I like it! I think the subject would look kind of lost in the white space if it wasn't for the cut-off.
07/19/2002 03:08:00 PM
This could have been a great pictures had there been more white space at the top and not so bright along the edges
07/19/2002 06:25:00 AM
Not sure I like the framing, particularly the cropping on the right.
07/19/2002 12:21:00 AM
Is this a wig? Color seems over sturated.

Sorry, the artistic intent doesn't come through. It just appears to be an overexposed capture.
07/18/2002 05:46:00 PM
whoa. that's a cool mane :D
07/18/2002 05:10:00 PM
Honestly kinda tossed on this one. This is a really cool representation of fire. Some parts seem too bright, especially the background, but the hair effect is sooo cool. Extra cool points! 9 Swash

This is great. I think the title fits it exactly ;) I wish all her hair could have made it in the shot, and the few remains of the face still visible were gone. Either case this is a great photo. Good job. 8 cthenk
07/18/2002 12:15:00 PM
I'd have liked this better if it were the red hair on the completely white background, but if you'd done it without having to way overexpose the whole thing.
07/18/2002 01:51:00 AM
This is one that is probably much better than I can apprieciate. I'm bothered by things you probably did on purpose (and your probably the one that's right) but the way the hair is cut off on the right, the harsh near the bottom and all that wide open space at the top all hurt it for me. But that's a matter of taste. ~ Qyl 5
07/17/2002 06:37:00 PM
a bit bright and harsh on the contrast, but good idea.
07/17/2002 02:28:00 PM
I love this effect! Please do tell how this was done! - 10 faerieaeone
07/17/2002 01:23:00 PM
original treatment. I like the way you have blocked out everything except the hair. Good Job!
07/17/2002 08:31:00 AM
Interesting abstract... good job on level adjustments :) = 7 - jmsetzler

Now this is something different! Good job on creatively presenting your subject.
07/16/2002 06:06:00 PM
aaah very very veeryyy nice!
07/16/2002 04:55:00 PM
Good contrast . Nice pic.

07/16/2002 02:39:00 PM
clever design-the hairlooks like flame against the bleached out background--great shot
07/16/2002 11:40:00 AM
This ones great, just a little tighter crop on top!!!
07/16/2002 11:15:00 AM
My daughter was viewing this with me and we thought it was flames when we saw the thumbnail. Then found out it was hair? right? I love the white space around this and the flamelike quality of her/his? hair.Gosh...I'm hoping I'm right on this and it's really hair...:P Pretty cool pic.. 8 - KDJohnson
07/16/2002 09:43:00 AM
like the different colours and the shine of the hair. Would like to see a contrast to the background...
07/16/2002 09:39:00 AM
Good idea, good composition, but two remarks : 1. why is it cropped on the right ? and 2. I don't like to over-exposure of the subject, texture would be better with a little less eposition IMHO
07/16/2002 02:26:00 AM
Well, I like the shot. I just can't figure out what it is. Looks like a mass of hair like a wig or something, but could also be a small furry animal.
07/15/2002 09:53:00 PM
This is a really amazing picture, and the only thing I'm trying to figure out if I like is the pure-white highlights in the hair. If it wasn't necessary to make your whole background white, I'd tone down the highlights in her hair just a tad. They make parts of the image seem very harsh, where the flowing hair is very smooth and calming. The shapes and colors of her hair, though, really make for an outstanding, original shot. Nice job.
07/15/2002 07:49:00 PM
When I saw this quickly in the thumbnail, I thought it was fire! Interesting perspective.
07/15/2002 05:39:00 PM
is that... hair??
07/15/2002 04:27:00 PM
Beautiful! I love a properly used blow-out!
07/15/2002 04:25:00 PM
Too much highlights and not enough contrast
07/15/2002 04:10:00 PM
Very cool effect. Just a little too bright in the lower right hand corner. 7
07/15/2002 02:15:00 PM
Very funky ! The white areas IN the hair area are over exposed but the rest is fine:)
07/15/2002 01:23:00 PM
Cool! The ends are cut off on the right though
07/15/2002 08:17:00 AM
Interesting, but I think it turned out well.
07/15/2002 06:35:00 AM
Flare of the hair indeed. Great.
07/15/2002 02:40:00 AM
At first I thought his was a womans hair, but now Im thinking its some sort of animal? I like the idea, but the lighting is a little too harsh for me.
07/15/2002 01:55:00 AM
Nice abstract shot, though it would be nicer if the edges werent so washed out by the bright background
07/15/2002 01:48:00 AM
Very visually interesting. After staring at this for about 15 mins, i STILL can't decide wether I like it or not, but it's definately INTERESTING!
I ended up giving you an 8 for showing more originality than most people for this challenge.
07/15/2002 12:26:00 AM
hey it's my hair! hee, nice idea! I love the lighting. 6
