Don't know if you pop in from time to time - but I keep looking to see if your portfolio tiger shots are back, or any new ones. They're memorable.

thanks tiffany

::: Critique Club :::

Hi, I am Kari and am fairly new to the critique club. This is probably one of the more controversial pictures in this challenge, so is going to make an interesting critique.

You have received a lot of comments, and I have taken those into account in this critique.

First Impression - the most important one:
Wow, this is so very lovely. I think that the only issue is meeting the challenge, the title does that for you - but really only just.

Composition:
It's on thirds, and it has reasonably sharp colours. You get the feeling that he is just waiting for something to happen. Whens lunch?

Subject:
The subject is beautiful and well worth sharing, if not in the challenge then through your portfolio.

Technical (Colour and light):
It may take a little more sharpening, but this will also sharpen the background, it may make the snow "pop". So really is up to you, it works as it is, and may also work with sharpening.

To grow its vote?:
Meeting the challenge helps, I think that is the main reason you have been voted down. If this truely had met the challenge according to the views of the voters I think it would be top 5 material.

Summary:
I think it is an wonderful shot. Thank you for providing the photo details and photographers comments, which help in critiquing, I still feel cold with you spending so long in the cold!

I just hope that my thoughts help you.

If you've got any questions about this critique, please feel free to contact me via the PM system.

Cheers
Kari

I gave it a six, zero of possible five points for meeting the challenge, five of five points for quality of the shot, and a bonus point for making one of the most beautiful web reduction shots I have ever seen, just an amazing image.

A super effort should get credit anywhere and this is one! Congratulations on your top 20 finish.

And, as you can see by this thread, macrothing isn't the only one who thinks that way.

Good capture, as is this portfolio one;

I gave this a 2 - didn't meet the Challenge strongly enough in my opinion. As good a shot as this is, the Challenge 'weight' got priority for me. edit: wording & after reading your comments (in the thread) I can make more of a connection, but alas, the 'comments' are not there whilst we vote. Also, this isn't a 'witch hunt' (although if it is, I say the voters are burned at the stake first, then the photographer, but that's just my opinion). Basically: you submitted a good 'long shot', the voters 'used the scale as they wanted', that's it. It's the 'age old debate' here at DPC, or at least one of them. edit #2 - condensed

lmao, awsome! amazing shot, but you have to find it funny... just a bit, lol. Well deserving of the 6, but if it had actually met the challenge, i would expect maybe even a 7... very nice image!

I like this photo a lot, but I don't feel that it fits the challenge. The only connection to the challenge seems to be the title.

Very nice picture. I love the compactness of the body with the long tail/legs spread in front.

this is really quite a fabulous picture. I imagine tho that many may feel it does not fit the challenge. I like the border as well but wished it was proportionate on all sides.

Beautiful tiger. The tight crop makes me a bit claustrophobic here; however the colors are subtle and deep.

An excellent tiger photo that you should be very proud of, but it "oops" is created in the title, not in the photo itself.

not oopsy.

I think this is a wonderful animal portrait - the colors are great. On the flip side though, for me, it's a bit of a stretch for the oops challenge without the benefit of your title.

Oh wow! This may be my favorite tiger picture ever. How BEAUTIFUL with the crisp snowflakes! And the tiger just couldn't be any more sharp or vibrant! Definitely one of my favorite pictures in this challenge. 10

This is an amazing photo, I'm going to vote on it like it wasn't in a challenge, because I don't see how it fits the oops! category, but it still is a great shot.

Wow, what a crystal clear image this is! Beautiful photo to boot, well done

Beautiful photo, if it was jus the photo, I would give it a 10, but in this catagory, I don't think it quite fits.
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/01/2006 07:34:09 AM
Its a nice photo, but it doesnt seem to meet the challenge. It relies on the title and not on the actual subject to represent 'oops'
  Photographer found comment helpful.
01/01/2006 12:29:00 AM
Ok, how did you capture the snowflakes. Everytime i try, they don't seem to appear... i use fast shutters and high iso... don' t get it.. maybe it's because it's usually a cloudy white sky..idk but def. a good image stunning in its color and composition, but i can't give it a 10 because i don't see the opps... weather is not something that makes me say opps or something like that. However, dont take it to heart, because this is an awesome photo, much better than any amateur like me could capture. 9!

while it is a splendid photo, it just doesn't meet the challenge without a ridiculous title. It'll probably still do well.

It's a great shot-- perfect focus on the face, great lighting, nicely framed. It's a bit of a stretch on the "oops" challenge, though.

awesome clear capture of the tiger, relying on your title a bit much to meet the challenge though, still a great image, good colors and clarity - I really like it :)

think about this border again (at least its drop shadow part), as for me it draws attention from the otherwise great picture
"oops" given by the title only -- again

I don't see the relevance to the challenge but it's a phenominal pic. 9

I'd post this on a stock site and try to sell it.
