Peete,

This is the picture that got me into DPC. I remember looking at this picture a while ago when I was debating whether to get a digital camera or not. This pic swayed it for me and I got a canon powershot thing for the following christmas and that set me on the road to getting my own business cards, own website, becoming the photographer for a professional wrestling company and a whole host of other stuff.

I love this picture. I absolutely adore it and when I look at it (which I still do) I'm reminded why I love photography and I get the same feeling today that I still did back then, that a perfect and beautiful image can be created by anyone willing enough to make it happen.

You should be very proud of yourself for this one. It's a glorious image and has a special place in my favourites. If you ever do a printed version, let me know as I would love to have this on my wall as a reminder. Hell, I might even pay you for it :)

Great work.

Super photo, love it.

PS: JPR...your not the only one, except I thought the old man was trying to touch his nose with his tongue....easiest to see in the thumbnail. A new version of a Rorschach Test.

Awesome lighting and capture of the smoke. Very interesting to view. The figure's stark angular face really contrasts well with puffs and light and curves and lines of the smoke. Excellent. a fav for sure.

Very cool abstract study. While Taurus is evident I also see a bit of Salvatore Dali in the smoke curls of mustache. Like the lighting particularly how it accents his right eye. Nice work, good luck. -10-

Interesting. My eye is drawn first to the bright smoke, then while following its shape, wondering what it is, I suddenly see the man and understanding clicks in. Effective.

One of the most highly artistic studies in this challenge. 7 on first pass. Will return!

This is a well thought image with an appropiate tiltle. I do hope it receives the credit. Yes, many novice photographers always avoid voting high a dark image but then they cheat themselves in understanding. Others have a political aversion to cigarette smoke. But surely, the looker should be bowled over by the subject presentation, technique and outstanding composition. You have my full 10 and I wish you luck.

The curls of smoke is what is so riveting and spellbinding in this photo. The misty curls that flow and undulate forth from the model gives rise to imagery of Taurus the bull as he snorts/belloes his fury before charging across the night sky.

12/02/2005 08:20:12 PM
Wow, awesome lighting and a perfectly black background to show it off well.
I don't care too much for the upper, thinner bits of smoke, but I"m too busy admiring the light and that wonderful white puffy cloud to bother much about it.
I wonder how many of those you took before you settled on this one. 9
