Nice portrait! Nice detail, subject and I like the graffiti lines coming out from behind.

Greetings from the Critique Club! :)

I will attempt to critique your image on four basic areas. Keep in mind I'm not a trained professional. ;)

1. Composition: The composition of this one is really nice...a good amount of lead room, helping us to wonder what he's looking at, and a nice bit of background to set the scene.

2. Technical Details: Wonderful combination of excellent focus, wide tonal range, great color, and skilled post processing.

3. Aesthetics: This was one of my personal favorites of the challenge, so to me it's spot-on aesthetically. I love images that aren't "DPC pretty." This one is no exception! :)

4. Relationship to Challenge: Meets the challenge perfectly IMHO.

Keep shooting and submitting and I look forward to your next entry!

Laurie :)

Congratulations! I loved it the moment I saw it. I really thought he lived on my corner in NYC, but alas, unless you were in NY, you are a tad far away for it to be! It is so wonderful.

Congrats on your 12th place finish! This shot really stuck out in the field and I'm glad that it was duly recognized.

This is a marvelous photo. However its a little too mid-tone to meet the challenge totally for me. Only removing some marks for that.

To me, there are many similar tonal ranges and the markings on the background wall look like vines coming out of his head.

A strong and gritty capture with definition accented to bring out the contrast. 9

I like this as a portrait, but don't see any impact from contrast.

Very good portrait. Like how you take down the color to make it grey looking.

Wow - great candid portrait. I think the high contrast works very well here too. Good focus, lighting, and crop. Nice work.

Awesome contrast, great subject, wonderful composition. The only criticism I have is that the guy looks a tad on the green side. Otherwise, this is one of my favorites so far.

Great photo, the only thin I would like to see different is the background, had it been more out of focus, I think it would have been a ten.

this would have been awesome in b&w...don't see a lot of high contrast here

I love this image. Can't tell you why as I'm too tired. Will come back tomorrow. 8 - will bump after seeing rest. Okay, I'm back. And I'm bumping up to 10. Arguments of high contrast aside, I love the image and refuse to be dictated to. POV, DOF, focus, tones, crop, all excellent. Lighting enhances the subject. What more can I say?

Its a GREAT shot, but my first though was that its VERY flat! It doesn't say high contrast...maybe HIGH? I love the shot though. 7
