this is just an awesome shot. the sun flare adds a great warmth to such a lonely looking place. well done! :)

I very much prefer you black and white version of this shot. The tree looks so wretched, it needs a cooler mood.

Like the distant feelings deep in us. Congratulations on your top twenty finish.

This is beautiful. I think the sun flare really adds to the mood of the shot. Feels like I'm standing right there.

Awesome! Could use some adjustments but with basic editing you can only do so much... I like it , I like it, I like it.

would be great without the solar flare but since it is basic editing I guess you can't clone them out.

I have a feeling many people will object to the bright red sun artifacts running through the photo. I actually like it, it adds a kind of surreal element to the shot. However, I wouldn't mind if you could tone down the red a slight bit so it's not so obvious. Stunning location and depth of field. I like how the light is soft and the sky is white in the background. 9.

Nice shot but the light refraction takes away from it.

the colors are crazy-pretty, are they natural?

love the look of the rocks and the tree...did you add a filtire for the sun reflection?

I like the composition but find the sun 'circles' in the beam distracting. might bump up on another pass.

Very clever to put a photo of this tree in both challenges! It is a beautiful tree and location. I like this one better than the HC one, where the flare distracts. Here, the flare adds to the picture a lot! Nice job.

A stunning shot but it's more a tree composition than branch

I know i would love this shot.. with out the sun flare spots.... they just seem too distracting to me ... sorry I'm sure in person this place would make my soul smile.

**Post edit months later** The more I think about this and come back to this picture the more I am liking the sun flare.. the direct lines of them and where they lead the eye. I still think the tree is lost to them a bit.. but I actually am diggin the spots too :)

This picture is really interesting because of the sun and how it seems to cast a blood red ray over the tree. Very cool

Really magnificent scene. Not crazy about the processing though. Somehow it seems to take away from the beautiful detail and rich tones, rather than augment them. Still strong entry.

Flares can be used creatively to enhance and frame subjects. I like the flares around the tree branch, but as they get closer to the foreground they start to distract my eye. Since I am not sure how you could have angled the camera to get rid of some of the flares, I have no advice. It is definitely a shot worth doing over and over to perfect just the right amount of flare for the subject.

i recognise this tree from high contrast. The lense flare really hurts this image (and the otherone also) Without it it would be perfect.

The title makes the sun rays part of the image, but I have a feeling that you would have had a strong image if you could have managed a shot without the sun rays. JMHO.
