Yes, the water is not smooth, yes i should have used a wider angle (but no $$$ for one at the moment)....

well, i should've used a wide angle if i wanted to include the fountain -- but the real issue is that i was waiting for them to turn the damn fountain light on! It'd be a very different photo if it was on, they did turn it on but that was past sunset. It's a classic problem -- expose for the fountain or expose for the sunset.

If you look in my portfolio you will find other shots I took WITHOUT the fountain. No desire to enter it as a submission though :)

You probably found my comment harsh and attributed that to my usual undiplomatic bluntness but i just want to say it was very deliberate. I relished making the comment [evil grin]. The title lead me to believe it was shot with either an EOS D60 or with a 10D (although i probably might have suspected that anyway). And i find it only fair to hold that dslr crowd to a much, much higher standard! Too bad about the distractions because the colors of that sky are just extraordinary!

Never been to UT campus, but it looks mighty inviting in this image. Wonderful sillouette of the setting sun. The fountain makes a nice foreground focal point against the campus skyline.

I love the color in this shot... the sky is on fire with nice color and the sun flare between the buildings works very well also. I'm not sure that the fountain on the right is really working well for me though.. it seems to be competing with the sun and skyline for attention... - setzler

the sun and the fountain compete for the eye's interest. i needs to one or the other.

The left side of this picture is great. I'm not too keen on the fountain (?) on the right. It almost looks like a dirty spot on the lens.

Because it is so dark, the fountain in the foreground is quite distracting. I would have liked to see the buildings/horizon etc as all black, with no distortion from the fountain.

Very nice! The blues at the top are a nice contrast. I miss Austin!

Nice sunset and I love the coloring , but the dark area on the right take away from a wonderful picture. I gave you a 7 but would have given you if not for that one detail

My top scoring sunset pic in this challenge because it`s a bit more interesting with the fountain and star effect. Maybe a touch too dark but still a 9.

The title says beautiful but this picture does not come across as such to me. Too much of a good thing is sometimes ugly. And in this picture there is way too much. As a result, the sky looks a little garish; that "sunburst" looks so Photoshoppy (i know it isn't) phony that it bugs the heck out of me. The thing i find most disturbing of all is the fountain spouting water (the right word for it escapes me right now). It is so sinister-looking that it reminds me of Anthony Perkins in Psycho when he came dashing into the shower. In fact, the only reason I could "read" that sinister shape was because of the water on the lower left, which is really lovely the way it catches the light.
Now, without the fountain and without the sunburst, a picture of just the sunset and the silhouette of the buildings with the interesting silhouettes of the towers would have been such a terrific shot. THEN, that sunset would have looked indeed beautiful and a pleasure to behold. 5 Journey

Nice! I like the rich colours. The fountain is very distracting though.

I think the blur of the fountain detracts from the overall image -- I would have cropped the fountain out completely -- I guess that means I would have cropped down to ONLY the silhouette and the sky. Still, it's a very beautiful sunset!

WOW great sunset....did you try to get the fountain to lighten up more....oh that would have been sweet....

Truly a beautiful sunset shot! I'm not certain I like the fountain; in my opinion, it would be better with more lighting in/on it, and without the bit of flare near the fountain. Of course, then you might draw attention from the sun itself.... hmmm.... Fantastic job! --9

what is that hanging to the right of the shot? its a bit disconcerting and very distracting! Love the sun though, and the reflections on the water and clouds.

Pretty, but the fountain is too dark - it looks like a dark, dirty smudge (not trying to be rude). Perhaps a stop more exposure? Colours in the sky are lovely.

Very dramatic. Love the sun coming through the two buildings. the stray streak is the worst thing about this, but fix it later. There is some other "artifiact" in the black area too. Love the way the color is hitting the water on the fountain. Think I would like to see the crest of the water on the fountain with this. Nice

Incredible colors. I think the fountain is distracting and a tigher crop on just the sun and the sky line would be a good alternative. Not necessarily better, but I might have preferred it. - 9

crop out that fountain and you've got yourself a nice pic

I like the starburst. The clouds are amazing. It took me a couple of seconds to see that fountain. I find it distracting, especially the flair in it. You could probably loose the water altogether and frame the top left 2/3 of the photo.

beautiful picture except for the fountain...though it may just be the light flare in the fountain that is bothering me. I would probably crop the geyer part out all together

Stunning. Great capture of the sun behind the building. Doesn't Texas have some of the best sunsets?

Good foreground interest but quite dark, giving an initially confusing silhouettes. The sky is great, lovely colours and the stopped down aperture gives an interesting star effect to the sun. Maybe some really low power fill to put some light into the fountain would be interesting, though it might ruin the mood

The colors in this photo are magnificant. Very nice capture and well done. I love the reflection of color in the pool. However, I'm not sure if I like the fountain showing in the photo. The falling water winds up as a rusty blurr and distracts from the beautiful sunset and otherwise other "clean" features of this shot...not to mention the reflection streak.

very pretty

Love the 'star' effect on the sun, I wanna know how to do it!
The only downside to this shot is that the water coming from the fountain looks more like mud! A combination of it being dark and the red light.
Still, a great shot, and I do like that sun : )

very nice. use of the flash might have made the fountain come out a bit more (although maybe not better. . .)

Amazing sky good catpture, you've got a good eye. The starry effect of the sun behind the building balances this photo wonderfully! Is that a water fountain on the right? Personally, I would have left it out of the shot, but that's just me - 9.
