Greetings from the Critique Club :)

Hi John...

Meeting the Challenge:

Wind is definitely a form of weather and I think you have chosen an excellent way to capture the wind in the form of a photograph.

Artistic/Emotional Impact:

I should start out by saying WOW. This is one of my favorite photos for this challenge. Why? Because of the artistic and emotional impact provided. This reminds me of some similar images I have seen in the past and it just 'pops' for me. The black and white choice really adds a strong element for me...

I love the horizon tilt in this image... it's perfect. I wouldn't change a thing about it...

I love the sharp contrast.

Keep up the great work :)

Fantastic. You show us both an action shot, AND the weather. I like the contrasts and off level point of view. Can I come next time? 10

This is ready be up on a wall. Outstanding photo!
04/18/2003 11:02:17 AM
awesome picture!
04/18/2003 11:01:53 AM
Great shot. Black & white is a good choice for this one.

I love sailing.. this brings back good memories for me. The diagonals here really create a sense of dymanism and movement. I almost feel as if I'm on the boat. The sky is a bit over-exposed but you capture the detail on the waves, rigging, and sail instead. Good job! 10

I like this shot. Maybe a little too dark, as some of the rigging and such is not clear. (9)
04/17/2003 06:30:36 PM
surley can see effects of wind
04/17/2003 03:41:49 PM
What makes this shot great is how it's lined up level with the boat, not with the horizon. I love it. 10.
04/17/2003 01:57:26 PM
good job, nice picture
04/17/2003 01:51:10 PM
Nice image. I really like the effect that black and white had on this photo.

beautiful! and very interesting photo in black and white...
04/16/2003 11:12:38 PM
good use of b&w , nice tones, can feel the wind
04/16/2003 07:10:01 PM
A simply awesome black and white. I feel like I am right there on the boat.
04/16/2003 02:23:58 PM
Great action with the weather. Fits the challenge perfectly. Good job.
04/16/2003 10:47:19 AM
You were lucky getting to go out yachting for this shot! You ended up with an awesome image depicting both strong wind and stormy skies (difficult to tell if the sky is blue of not in B&W).
04/15/2003 11:26:39 PM
I really like this picture, mainly becouse the weather isn´t so obvious. Awesome!!!
04/15/2003 05:35:04 PM
this is one of my top 3 of the week! I love the bw, and the composition cannot be improved upon in my humble opinion. The tilt really gives the feeling that we're in the storm. My only beef is that the boat itself is a bit too dark, but still - 10 -

Great shot - in my top three -10
04/15/2003 02:38:06 PM
good application of theme
04/15/2003 12:41:20 PM
Great perspective drama. I'd prefer a lil less contrast for a lil more (textural) detail
04/15/2003 12:08:34 PM
A little too much of a dark spot on the bottom, but you definitely get the feel for the wind. I love the sail and the angle of the whole picture. How you took a steady shot is beyond me. Good job!
04/15/2003 08:10:11 AM
Beautiful work. This captures the feeling of wind very nicely. Your b/w conversion is well done.
04/15/2003 07:42:24 AM
I really like this in black and white. good direction of lighting, good texture, nice contrast.
04/15/2003 06:48:43 AM
This is nice. Great perspective and the tilted horizon adds to its dynamism. Good use of B&W too. I'd suggest cropping a little of the dark stuff away at the bottom - perhaps to the lowest horizontal rope? Will make a nice print for sailing buffs.
04/14/2003 11:37:03 PM
Now here's a nice weather image. The composition and contrast are excellent.
04/14/2003 07:34:14 PM
great but a little dark
04/14/2003 07:32:08 PM
nice picture
04/14/2003 04:37:31 PM

04/14/2003 03:28:37 PM
wow, fantastic, to me this is a winner
04/14/2003 03:11:33 PM
Like the tilt, works well in monochrome.
04/14/2003 03:09:00 PM
Prepare to come about!! Neat shot, neat perspective. Good, good work.
04/14/2003 02:03:15 PM
Cool picture! It's very dynamic, and clear. Aren't you worried you'll fall off the edge of the earth?
04/14/2003 01:00:43 PM
Great light, good B&W, the tilt of the hoizon really makes me feel like I'm there, although more storm tossed seas would build that effect - good framing great shot.
04/14/2003 12:21:33 PM
phemonimal black and white... the contrast is great and i love the drama created by the tilted horizon... great work :) = 10 - setzler

Nice. The wind, the sky, the clouds. Might suffer on the weather connection for some, but it works for me. Sharp, with good textures.
