after my black and white challenge entry went so well with the noisy miners at the bird bath it inspired me to want to get much better photos of them .. hopefully in action and being interesting ..
i didnt think they were that interesting in my black and white entry .. possibly because they are very intense birds and dont usually just sit around looking almost agreeable like this ..

so i put my mirrorless camera on pro-capture mode .. which means that you can capture 20 - 30 frames before you press the shutter fully down .. great for action shots .. (you can set how many frames in the settings .. )
filled the bird baths with water which sometimes brings the birds .. it didnt ..
waited for noisy miners to come and be dramatic ..

it was taking too long .. i started walking inside when this grey butcher bird landed on the birdbath and started singing .. he then jumped in the water .. had a very quick splash around and flew off .. everything happened so fast I didn’t have time to get what I wanted ..

anyway .. i got this photo which didnt included his tail and edited it .. really liked it but felt some voters would mark me down as i've seen comments on other photos saying wish you hadnt copped the tail ..

i'd got one shot of him with his tail but not singing .. so i spent many hours editing to include his tail in the singing shot .. for that reason alone i want it to do well .. ;)

the butcher bird's song is absolutely beautiful btw .. do yourself a favour and listen to these videos .. :)
butcher birds singing

Pied Butcher bird song with Aussie guy voiceover ..

ps .. i tried to make the water droplets as real looking as possible using brushes .. but very much above my pay-grade .. if anyone has a great way to add droplets i'd be extremely grateful if you shared ..

AFTER ROLLOVER ..
stoked about coming in the top 5 .. thankyou for the comments and votes during the challenge .. xx

Have you tried making rain by using a layer of "noise" and giving it a motion blur?
The direction of the drops is then constant (your brush doesn't seem to always be in the same direction?), and the drops are more random. But you then have to play with layers and blur some of them, else it looks fake :-)

thankyou so much Gaby .. I will definately look into that xx

I liked this very much until I saw the mark on the birds throat that resembles a second eye. Now I can't unsee it, and tthe image makes me feel very dizzy!
