this was the very first insect i photographed this year .. as we had just come into spring .. he's a very small flying ant on the barbed wire fence ..

thankyou for your kind comments during voting and the great score ...

if we'd rolled over about two hours sooner i would have beaten the blue .. but maybe Mary Ann's dropped a heap too in those last couple of hours .. :( ..

i didnt hold out much hope for a ribbon as i thought in an extended fs you'd have to be at least 6.9 or over 7 to get one .. so i was extremely surprised to see i got the yellow ... or rather that cute little flying ant got the yellow .. thankyou little ant ..

now to give the site council my editing steps .. its complicated enough creating something like this .. explaining it is even harder .. !! .. ;)

anyway .. after Dennis's comment i thought i'd stick the original photos in here .. just fyi ..

I had 5 images in this challenge that I liked and of course, this is one of them.
It has humor, it has composition, it has an idea and this is the best quality of all.
As to monitors and calibrating, there is no way that we can control how people see an image on their screens. There are too many variables. That's why I insist that good images have to be printed.
Make a book Roz.

thanks for your comment Dennis .. :)
to answer your question .. I LOVE BLACK AND WHITE .. !! ..
plus my monitor needs calibrating .. i can never be totally confident that the colours i see on my pc are the same as those seen by other people .. i usually check on my phone and laptop to see what the colours look like .. and usually on the phone they are much more saturated .. especially the red .. and on the laptop they are more subdued .. i'm using windows 7 on the pc and windows 10 on the laptop .. my phone is samsung s9+ ..
anyway .. during the editing process i did consider this in colour .. but i felt it had much more impact in black and white .. :)

Fabulous image! Really fun and well done!! Congrats on your yellow!! My score dropped a bunch in the last several hours to the lowest score it had since voting started. The last few hours were brutal but the number of votes didn't change!! So it wasn't just you that got slammed at the end.
