The minute I saw this picture I knew it had to be Longsdale Quay! Nice to see some familiar sights of home. Great composition :)

Hi Luis

FIRST IMPRESSION:
What a beauty, eh

COMPOSITION:
Great, IMO. I think that if you had given it a bit more room on the right, it could have worked a bit better. Love how you left a hint of the ground on the bottom . nice use of the rule of thirds, placing 'waldo' right on the bottom right intersection. :)

TECHNICAL:
Well, you did it all right (lighting/focus/dof), I have the S30 as well, and I don't think I've ever managed to get such a sky under low lighting. Would be interested in knowing what you did in post-processing. :)

ARTISTIC:
Simply an amazing photo to look at. The sky colours are overwhelming. Defenitaly meets the challenge...great job and congrats on a well deserved 2nd (i had you as the top photo, but hey, second ain't bad) :)

Cheers and good luck in the future challenges.

Thank you everybody for your votes and special thanks to all the people that left comments.

The structure in the photo is the observation tower of the Lonsdale Quay Hotel in North Vancouver, BC. This scene is one that I have enjoyed many times when walking back home after work. The tower is accessible to the public and it is not uncommon to find a photographer on it since this is one of the best spots to photograph the northern skyline of downtown Vancouver. This photo was taking facing west. Vancouver’s harbour and downtown are south of were the camera was standing.

The photo is not posed, so I took many shots waiting on each of them for the rotating sign to face my way. The photographer is hidden in some of the shots but because he is a silhouette, it is impossible to recognize him as a person. It all went down to a choice between showing an easy and an impossible to see person.

Hope that's not waldo up on the landing - becaue that's not hidden. Beautiful photo. I love the coloring. I also love that we can SEE (?) the sun in this. Fantastic photo but don't personally feel you met the challenge of "hiding" Waldo in the photo. He's standing right out in the open with nothing hiding him.

What a sky! And the neon in the sign, which usually looks so unnatural, seems to blend with the sky tones so nicely. The stark shadow of the stairway against the sky is a great focal point...and of course there's our Waldo. Very nice.

A bold silhouette image with beautiful subtle hues in the sky contrasting with a strong line study and blazing sign. The sun, the red sign and the figure all compete for my attention visually. Any one of those powerful elements in combination with just the sky would be a winning combo in my opinion. Such as the figure, three tiers of stairs and the sky. The scribble of treeline along the bottom is a perfect compositional base. A great idea that should earn you many other compliments. Good luck.

Wow - this is a very nice photo - top 5 material imo. Cropping of the right side is unconventional here, but it works.

Excellent picture. I love the composition, the placement of the tower is excellent and the colours in the sky is just great. You even caught a sun pilliard. Good job. My first 10. Didn't think it would be possible in this challenge. 10 Jacko.

I love this shot. The stairway is perfect. I wish the flagpoles weren't there but there isn't anything you can do about that. 10

I really love the color of the sunset. Wonderful!! The sun through the clouds is a very nice look. Odd sign. Is this a look out on purpose? Just plain wierd on an advertising sign. Overall, I like this much better than the false Waldos I offered up previously. I'm going with an 8. It's a nice silhouette, great color, challenge met, interest level is middle (not low or really high).

I really like the colours of this photo. Framing is very good (especially the horizon at the bottom edge of the frame). Well done.

challenge met. it's not exactly difficult to find the person (a photographer? looks like he/she is using a tripod), but the person blends in well, and the staircase structure against the sunset is just really nice and well exposed. one of my favorites so far :)

Love it. Fantastic light, graet silhouette, superb subject. Surely they didn't just happen to be standing there ?

Ah HA!!! I found the winner, hiding in all the Waldos. This is it for sure!!!!! Can I give it a 20??????

Beautiful interpretation of the challenge. Great focus and clarity. The angle and framing/cropping is excelent. I love the negative space here. The colors are simply beautiful and the silhouette is great. What more can I say? I think it was VERY beneficial to this shot that you put the stairs over to the right side. Great job. Good luck in the challenge. 10

I lovely photo, but the person is not really hidden at all. They are the focal point of the shot and right where I ecpected them to be. You should have submitted this to the cliche challenge!

"hide a person in your otherwise person-less photo" - ???

If the person were concealed better, I would rate this photo very high (10), but since the person is not concealed very well, I have to rate it lower.
