Actually....that site has helped me grow a thicker skin. At first, I felt a sense of disappoinment and anger when I got rejected. Now, I have learned to view my imges with a much more critical eye. When I get rejected, I look over the image and try to see from another point of view. The critique section can be very helpful as well. I actually appreicate the ability to have much thicker skin now....as weird as that may sound.

totally agree.
there are too many photo comunity websites with the 'everybodys photos are wonderfull' (even when they are not) mentally and you don't learn a thing from them!!

My first reject

"one or more objects are disturbing the composition" - must be the beagle hehe

actually I am sure that I am not artistically skilled for this site. But I'll keep trying, just to see what happens

OK, for all my bad mouthing, 1x does have a purpose. B&W isn't necessarily appreciated here, so it would be a good medium for that.

And no matter what you think, this shot is absolutely bitchin'....

Zero Gravity

Oh, the morning "latest additions" tally would be 5 B&W, 2 muted color, 1 monotone, 1 selective desat, and 1 very colorful shot.

Interesting that you mention that. I'm fairly new around here and I don't have an opinion on it. But it's interesting to notice that my first published photo on 1X is one of the few (if not the only) photos I trully think it was underappreciated here - and it's a B&W photo. And don't get me wrong, I'm pretty harsh criticizing my own work!

And most are foreboding and sad. Seeing sad images makes me happy, and yet both emotions are fleeting.

Help! I'm having difficulty uploading a photo for submission. I think I'm a failure before I've even begun. (I hope that this isn't an omen.) On my first attempt, the upload stalled for the longest time, so I quit. I just tried again, and this time step #4 lit up in red: "Avoid special characters in the filename. Stick to a-z, A-Z, 0-9. No blanks!" My file name consisted of three words with no punctuation. Should an underscore be used to separate the words? I'm guessing my problem was in having a space between the words, but it was unclear to me what the proper format should be. Can someone guide this techno-dunce? Thanks!

Spaces and blanks are the same thing and not allowed. You can only use letters and/or numbers. Just take out the spaces and it should be fine.

Oh, yeah, and I just signed up and submitted one for kicks. Sounds like a fun game trying to get stuff through!

Are you using Safari on Mac? I couldn't up load either. Everything worked fine using FireFox.

Two.

First round means you didn't get instakilled by the site screeners.

Second round is for public critique/voting.

Slightly off topic, but I was thumbing through a photography book at Barnes and Noble last night and found this image right there on the page. Now that's a trip! Too bad I was alone or I'd've bragged that I know the photographer... well, sorta. =) Nice work, David!
