i am considering taking a trip into the mountins for a couple of days of short hikes - post GTG/Workshop .. stickly a byog trip (bring yer own gear) though if people sound interested we may be able to pool (one brings tent/another cooking gear/etc)
-lightweight car camping stuff-
.. likely a std loop route of Calgary/banff/jasper/edmonton ..

if anyone is interested in coming along pls let me know ..

I'm in with any camping planned. I hate staying indoors anyway. If needed, I have both lightweight packing equipment and the heavier regular camping stuff. I am not lending out my Exped downmat though, that's mine and mine alone!

As for climbing, I don't climb, but I can take picts of people climbing :)

A few dumb questions if I may?

1. What is the airport name in Calgary?
2. Will I need a passport coming from the states? (i just dunno?)
3. Is it advisable to rent a car while there?

thank you

Airport: YYC
You may not need a passport to get into Canada but you'll probably need one to get back to the states. ;o)

I believe they extended the recent rule requiring them because of the vast passport processing queue it created on the US side. Not sure how far they extended it but get the application in a.s.a.p.

I would feel lost without without the passports :-)

it's not necessary, but likely advisable. It's a pretty easy city to navigate, but it's spread out so taxis/public transport aren't all that efficient. That said, we're trying to arrange it so most of the workshop/gtg activities are all within a reasonable proximity to limit the need for transportation. there will likely be lots of locals in attendance so with luck we can handle most of it with some strategic carpooling or shared transport. more details as we start to figure stuff out...

Oops you'll have to excuse my ignorance, the UK is the only part of Europe I've been to. :(

Absolutely okay.. :) There will be plenty to do around the city the day of the workshop if the workshop topics aren't your thing.. and we can all come together later that night and the following day :)

Same with me - I won't be able to do the workshop/money requiring stuff but since I am pretty sure I'll still be living actually IN Calgary, the second day would be awesome.
