hej:)
some things have changed in my life lately
well, all things:)
so i don't really know where i will be
and what i will be doing next july.
it is too early to plan so long ahead.
but i'd love to go to canada.

is it possible to decide some time in may?
will it be too late?

Svetlana, I'm sure you will still be able to decide in May. There are always people who show interest and then back out at the last minute. If there are spots available.. then we can for sure figure something out if it turns out you are able to join us :)

hmmmm... 55 people with a probable 2000-5000$ (very conservative est.) of investment of gear ..
any chance of getting some local/intl sponsorship from vendors? ;)

A very good question Ralph, I will take it to the committee and see what they have to say about it.

The only downside I see to involving larger entities like that is they then would like a say in how things are done, what material is covered, and somehow end up inserting their agenda.

So far this workshop has been pretty laid back, just a bunch of passionate people getting together to share their skills in somewhat of a formal setting. Its nice to keep it mostly DPC related as well.. after all its for this community. I love the grass roots feel they have been thus far.. very approachable (not saying sponsorship would change that.. but it could) I will certainly talk to Pedro about it though.. there are a couple of places here in Calgary I know that might offer their support for an event such as this.

More to follow.....

i agree not what we/you would want /.. by dpc'ers for dpc'ers is what i would like ... but ... at the same time to defer any costs :) hell if nikon/canon/{pick yer'fav} would buy us lunch :) it would be a bit of recognition ..

Hey Jamie.. the date and all the information is included in the first post of this thread ;) July 5 for the workshop and July 6th for the gtg walk around portion

A rather daft thought on sponsorship: given the number of manufacturer's gear that is likely to be used by the attendees, would any of the major vendors really want to be seen to be endorsing (by association) gear from their competitors?

I can just see the scenario (and this is meant in jest) where the Canon guys are fed from a sumptuous buffet, lots of choice and options and delivered on time and with a choice of a full-size or reduced plate; the four thirds guys are given twice as much as everyone else from a more eclectic selection of foodstuffs, some of which would have a strong brand image; and the Nikon guys simply drool over the amazing 7 course dinner on the Nikon website while reading that it will be delivered sometime in the next two months!

Sponsorship? I don't think so :-)

;) ... I was kind of thinking the same thing Nikon vs Canon who would want to support the competition. Thats why I was thinking of approaching some stores around here. There is one in particular that has workshops etc.. i think if anyone they might be willing to get involved. My concern of course would be the cost of their involvement to the overall feel of the day. Still waiting on a reply from Pedro before WE approach anyone :)

Just a thought but given that the $CAN exchange rate is good with the € and the £ at the moment maybe there is an enticement for local stores to offer some form of sponsorship in the hope that they may sell stuff? The differential pricing used by Nikon makes it very attractive to buy lenses in North America, for example. Nothing seems to attract sposorship that the thought of increased revenue in my experience.

Well it is looking more and more likely that I´ll be able to come to this one, I am going to keep that weekend free from weddings and stuff like that and if I keep working at the place I am at now I´ll pretty much 95% come to this thing so I´ll know in probably feb/march how it goes. What´s the status, are you guys filled up?

not really, you can get your passport application expedited for like an extra $60 or somthing. takes around 3 weeks to get it back. i actually got mine out here from the embassy of Baghdad. took a little longer than a month

With the number of photographers travelling halfway around the world to attend this thing, I have a feeling I would end up regretting it if I didn't make the trip from Vancouver for the weekend. Not sure on the workshop just yet, but I'll let you know as soon as I decide.

At any rate, I haven't been to the Stampede since I was too young to drink... should be a fun weekend!

I have been stuggling with this one. I really want to go to this because of the talent that will be there to help me with studio and portrait photography (a very weak area for me). But I also have a group that I'm planning to climb Mt. Baker with. Something I've always wanted to do since sitting here on a hike a couple of years ago looking longingly at it. As you would guess it is being planned for the same time!

Hopefully the date for our climb will be set a little earlier so I can make it and there will still be spots open. Sounds like a great program.

Christie.. I got mine in two days when I paid the extra... so if thats all that is holding you back its really a non issue.. you should be fine. :)

Option: .. look forward to hearing from you either for the workshop or just the GTG.. either one would be awesome.

jbsmithana: I hope it works out that you are able to attend both. I totally get the desire to climb mountains.. I did Lady Mac here a few years ago and it was brilliant.. (not as big as Baker) but still felt amazing to do it :) Just drop us an email when you have figured it all out I'm sure there will be room :) You are correct when you said there will be talent at our workshop.. Studio in particular so I hope you are able to work it out :)

Man oh man, I've got to do something about my fear of flying. This is just a *little* too far for me to drive. :-/
