A church hymn: "Let There be Peace on Earth"

It was my father's favorite hymn. He passed away over 27 years ago and it still chokes me up whe I hear it.

Hide & seek from Ani Difranco.

I think we led parallel lives. I ended up crying in the drive thru at taco bell once because this song came on and even though I changed it quick I already knew all the lyrics and coudlnt stop myself from thinking about it. and I'm not a crier. my dad cries mroe than me and he's mister macho. lol.

Barry Manilow

and Seasons in the Sun is actually a (notoriously inaccurate) translation of a Jacques Brel song.

The Living Years by Mike & The Mechanics

This song prompted me to write very long detailed letters to both of my grandparents detailing all the wonderful memories I have of them growing up as a child. A week after I gave it to them, my grandfather was diagnosed with cancer and died within 4 months of the diagnosis. I'm very grateful to have been able to make him smile and cry at the same time. His letter was buried with him per my grandmothers request.

This is a strange one for me as a Pacifist, but Staff Sgt. Barry Sadler's Ballad of the Green Berets. In spite of the state of the world today and the Global turmoil caused by Mr. Bush's use of our military, this song moves me...

Fighting soldiers from the sky
Fearless men who jump and die
Men who mean just what they say
The brave men of the Green Berets

Silver wings upon their chests
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Trained to live off nature's land
Trained to combat hand-to-hand
Men who fight by night and day
Courage taken from the Green Beret

Silver wings upon their chests
These are men, America's best
One hundred men will test today
But only three win the Green Beret

Back at home a young wife waits
Her Green Beret has met his fate
He has died for those oppressed
Leaving her this last request

Put silver wings on my son's chest
Make him one of America's best
He'll be a man they'll test one day
Have him win the Green Beret

Hurt - NIN

I like the original better, but Johnny Cash's version sounds much sadder
