Overall, the title/photo ended up in an oxymoronic entry with the maximalism of the title possibly balanced by the minimalism of the image. Or, maybe it was all just another weak attempt at DPC humor?

wow that was a mouthful LOL

Surely it can`t be the scores people are bemoaning... or is it?

Could someone enlighten me?

Ray

Hi Ray--speaking for myself only, I make my top picks for flower shots before voting is closed, that way I'm reacting only to the shot (not to the photographer). Sometimes I get a surprise & one of my picks does well in the voting. I think maybe you're thinking that the picks should happen after we know the scores, & only among the low-scoring shots & I think maybe some people do that. I challenge you (double-dog dare you) to make your 3 top picks in one of the challenges, it's fun. Just sayin'.

I may do just that. :O)

You're thinking too hard. I take it to be the latter. I loved the long winded title. (I've been criticized for some long winded titles, but yours puts my longest to shame) Sorry to have given it such a high vote, it looks like I kept you from achieving another brown.

Ha! I was trying to achieve this with my title too. Don't think it helped me much but it did put a smile on my face when I typed it though.

Many thanks to pixelpig, denbote and bvy for recognition in the freestudy, and to posthumous for the same in minimalism. I am pleased to be in company with fellow honorees. Everything tastes better.

Congratulations to the Winners of the July Purple Prose Award for the best narration of their photos!

bassbone, fatboy72, and coryboehne have not only given us wonderful photos but they've given us the story of the photo as well. There's drama, struggle, human interest, and some interesting editing details that make the stories worth reading and inform my reaction to the photo. Worth reading.

And I would be remiss by not giving these photogs recognition for their fine narratives.
geinafets mycelium LydiaToo RianBotes Citadel kellmak10 odriew and Yo_Spiff. Their stories are wonderful ... some minimalist, some heart wrenching, some dense in a twitter-esque style ... but all inform the photo. Congratulations!

See this thread for a bit of background on the award. And look for the winners of the August Free Study Purple Prose Award next month!

I have never been so different in my assessment than the DPC masses until this shot. I had it as my second best in the challenge, and think it deserved much better than what it got.

Somebody please give this photo an award.
PS - fish were in my top ten too
