I'm commenting more than usual and have only received one myself, yet my score is good. I'm kind of surprised.

I haven't commented much or voted much recently myself - but I've noticed that comments are becoming quite scant.

Has the prospect of 'already made answers' ever been suggested? I know some people may argue that they will kill comments off completely, but there could be an option to write your own comment too. It would be better than getting no comment at all - which is becoming quite the norm these days.

So for example:

Too much noise
Out of focus
Too dark
Etc.

(And these are crap examples - I'm sure there are better worded ones!).

You could click a maximum of 3(?) from a list, so then at least the person would know what people thought GENERALLY. The list could include positive comments as well. We could have the option to turn this function off, and the voters would still of course have a choice on whether to comment or not (and even have the option to turn it off themselves from the voters side of things)

I used to come on DPC to try and improve upon my technique via some of the comments I received, even the more blunt comments were at least a learning curve...

I'm not going to stand on a soapbox though, because my comments haven't exactly been forthcoming recently either... but if something like this was implemented it would give me the incentive to comment more via the use of a comment list (busy life and all that jazz).

Just thoughts... :)

Yep. It has been suggested many times, even by myself a long time ago. Was rejected by those here at dpc that simply like to argue in the forums for the sake of arguing. I do not think it was even considered by SC since they never replied to my suggestion, which was also sent directly through the "contact us" in case they were not monitoring the thread. I have heard it brought up several times since then....same result.

Mine finally just climbed back up to a 6. I honestly thought this one was mid 6 material. As usual I thought wrong. :( As much as I love this place...it can be really frustrating at times.

Actually creeping ever so slowly upward over the last 24 hrs. Some 5s, some 6s, and even a rash of 7s...woohooo! Against a LOT of great shots, I have to feel like that ain't too bad.

Keep on smilin'

So, I've just started a bit of a comment quest - I'm picking out all of the images which offer something a little different and I'm going to offer a long comment and a score on each. I am looking for the obtuse and the eclectic and I will be spending a long time examining and commenting on each. I'll be voting too - I won't promise to score high just because the image is different and I will give out low scores where I really feel I can't go any higher but I will promise I'll be looking with a fair eye and to ensure that those who have offered something different this month will get my fullest consideration before I offer my score.

I have finished my series of comments:

You have rated 40 of 413 images (10%) in this challenge.
You have commented on 40 images (10%) in this challenge.
You have given an average score of 6.0750.

I didn't love them all but I did give out 3 tens and 2 nines. I found it to be a really rewarding experience, since I found that I became really involved with the images. Those 40 submissions took me about 5.5 hours to view, comment on and score, so each image has had about 8.25 minutes of attention. Those that received comments in the early hours of this morning (UK time) are offered an apology for some of my spelling / typos!

(I will of course go on to score the rest and leave some more regular comments on the other images so that my scores will stick)

If you felt you had submitted a less than conventional image and I haven't found it, then I do apologise for missing it.

As for me:

Finally hit a 5.4! Awesome. It just keeps climbing. I'll be pretty chuffed if it hits my front page, I love the photo.

I have learned my lesson. No more SP's. I think its the model that's bringing it down. I need an Eagle!!

I was also honest ... I really like that one a lot better than the other choice ... I'm sure it'll end up above a 6!
