Square crops certainly seem to be in vogue at the moment judging by various other gallery sites and magazines. It is interesting how these things come and go. |

So are the square crops replacing the letterbox border as the in-thing? Time for me to start doing some letterbox borders.
I'm not a huge fan of square crops for my own stuff, though I have used it occasionally, when it was what worked for the composition of the shot.

| Same here really. I'd never really used it before but for a series of recent shots the square crop just seemed to fit the compositions and subject matter. |

This is the key, isn't it as is a letterbox border. If it works with the composition, it's really good. If it doesn't then the image seems off balance.

| I rarely use square crops unless it really fits the photo. But one thing about square crops, it gets more of your photo seen, not sure if that gets you a better score or not. |

Like most, I started out higher (6.3) but expected the drop ... was a 5.8 earlier but is coming back up. My scores given are pretty close to the score I am getting at this time. I truly don't understand people who vote 1 to 3's ... sure some shots are not the best, but you can see the effort, the time setting it up and keep in mind that not only do many people on this site have less than stellar equipment, many are just starting out or are quite young. You'd think the votes were money coming out of pp's pockets - and I am not complaining about my votes here - I am happy with mine ..but there are photos that I look at after voting that I just don't understand the low scores.
