this is the last year i'm gonna give this site an attempt unless the tide turns because i cant afford to pay to feel bad about my photography/art

sure the $ is pocket change to some but its a quarter of my weekly pay currently = and overall.. its just not worth feeling like my art is complete garbage - first challenge since re-signing up and i'm kicking myself for having spent the $ 2 sign up.

back to the scores 4.6 and dropping.

yospiff can spank my dead horse all he want, I'm still finding it unfair that we don't get good feedback, as do all. And Love6, your results in challenges has nothing do to about you skills as a photographer. At least I like to think so about myself.

I just looked at your portfolio...you are not Mediocre...you have had some excellent scores given that you have been entering for less than an year....also keep in mind that when there are 250 + entering a challenge (and a challenge that I might add has some excellent entries that have a "boatload" of experience in capture, editing and processing) personally if I am improving at all then I am happy and if I learn something from a challenge (like no gaussian blur) then I come away with something...can you really look at your photo and then look at the others and not tell why your score is what it is? in any given challenge?? I know I can...to me it is quite obvious that I really need to learn alot more about the editing/processing side of this world, but if I don't enter these challenges then I will not learn nor grow in my photography.

yeah
06/15/2009 12:11:54 PM · #112
that's just the thing-- its not improvement when my score is dropping in current challenges - I don't think my photo should be rated a 4 and under for certain; it fits the challenge; i didn't use a ton of processing on the photo (in fact i did minimal editing) I've only received 1 comment = no no matter how hard i try I'm not a mind reader.. but i am frustrated that my photograph rates lower than mediocre/ average - a photograph i was quite happy with when i first entered it - its enough to make me not want to pick up my camera which everyone always yells at me i don't put down and to stop taking pictures because its bothering them

a brief tiny climb - still nowhere near average or mediocre photography apparently

If you LOVE your image quit beating yourself up over your score. Honestly, DPC is not the be all end all of all contests. Enter it somewhere else, sell it, or just enjoy it yourself. I am sitting at 4.9 and because I really like my image I don't give a flying f*** about my score.

Also, I think there are some FABULOUS images in the challenge and some absolutely horrible ones as well. Bottom line, love what you submit, stand behind it, or learn from your comments and move on..

only 1 comment and it didn't relate to any steps i took to edit my photograph (tho i appreciate the fact they took a second 2 comment so i always mark helpful)

I'm sitting on a 4.5 that seems 2 be going down again so mine must fall in the horrible category

so Love6 have ya voted and commented on all yea? Commenting on "all", really is an eye opener...it makes you really look at each photo and evaluate what makes that particular photo tick...I HIGHLY recommend doing this...not only does it help you learn why...it helps us learn why... Judi and Yo_Spiff kicked my but into doing this...now they can't complain about not receiving comments

Scrub that sorry posted in the wrong thread, can't help with this one as I am entered in to it and feel it wouldn't be fair.

Yet again I inhabit the no man's land between 4.5 and 5.0: neither respectable nor sufficiently interesting to garner the antipodes of enthusiasm. BUT just glancing at the entries I can see quite a lot of interest and finesse.

your comment stopped me of hurling my self and camera into a depression
that not even zoolof could cure
goes to show 1 comment could save lives

Would you rather I remove my comment? Regardless of what your actual steps were, I can only go by what I see. I do not have image osmosis. Perhaps others are seeing it also, hence the undesirable score. Oh...and I did take more than a second to make the comment, particularly after the PM you sent.

I don't understand. People crave comments but then seem not to want them when they are not completely agreeable. Sorry not to sugarcoat.
