well today is better...got down to 5.72 yesterday after being at 5.84 less than 10 votes earlier...must have been some big trolls out yesterday for all of us...

This one has been interesting. The first few voters had it in the low 4's and the score has been climbing upward at a 45 degree angle the whole challenge. Just shy of a 5.5 right now.

I'm sitting on a 5.9 at the moment... Voters have about 9 hours to bump me to a 6!

this vote count is rather low, no?

My best score in the past 6 months, so I can't complain!

I just finished my first voting pass as well. There are some fantastic images in this one. I'm off to bump some of my 7s, so watch out for a random score increase!

Even with a new vote and a comment telling me a 9, my score falters. Oh well, like freakin_hilarious said, this is by far my best in A VERY LONG TIME, so I'm happy. Just was hoping to change my front page.

I wish it would hurry up and be rollover, so I could calm down and look at Zen images. LOL I couldn't come up with one, but plan on voting.

OMG - you poor thing. In fact when I opened this thread I thought, well, at least my image is not there.

It's all the way up at a 5.0.

I swore I would not fall into entering any challenges, despite the gift of an anonymous person for another year. Yet here I am chomping at the bit, losing sleep again, and I have wrapped myself around yet another poor showing. Sitting around a 5.3. When will I learn I can't compete with the big guns here. No Zen for me. At least I won't have to worry for the week. I will just vote.

I feel like I am short about 80 votes considering there is 2 hours of voting left. That and my motion panning entry has about 50 votes more yet voting started 2 days later

One of the things I like best about this place is that it's a bit like golf. Everyone has their 'handicap' of a score.

We all can work from where we are (where our average is) and compete with ourselves for improvement.

The "big guns" can do this... the "little guns", too.

Whever we each are, we always have room for improvement and our average can help us see if we are improving.

Don't be discouraged because you aren't scoring as highly as folks who spend more time doing this each week, or have spent years longer at it than you have.

Start where you are. And have FUN! :)

Edit to add: Oh yeah... and there are many, MANY people who would really love to be good enough to have a page full of 6's on their Profile. *smile*

I think some people refer to me as a big gun....but my two current challenge entries are sitting on 5.8 and 5.4.....so even the big guns have bad days. You just need to see how many sub-five entries I have.

To add to what Lydia said...
I consider a 5.3 to be a decent showing and It also happens to be my site average. Much of the entries in the range are good photography that just does not appeal to a broad spectrum of the voters. My own entry is one of those. I am surprised it is doing as well as it is. My construction entry is only slightly above a 5, but I knew I was entering something that would not have that broad appeal. The comments it has received, however, tell me I nailed what I was after. You have to interpret the votes and comments to figure out if your photo was really lacking, or if it just had narrow appeal. Many times I have had a low scoring entry that I consider a success, because it hit the target audience.

I also enjoy playing "DPC Bingo". That's where I try to predict in my pre-challenge notes what the critiques will be. Give it a try. It's good for developing a critical eye on your own work. I may actually make up some cards. Hmmm. I wonder if this would make a good side challenge?

DPC Bingo? What is that?

I did go through and tried to predict what might be said. In all honesty, I went through a checklist previous to posting. The subject was extremely attractive and well shaped, the toning was spectacular and I knew it, the composition seemed so full of light and repetition of pattern that I could not pass on it. In all honesty, I don't see anything wrong with it. The only thing I can come up with is that the voters voted based on comparison of images. They felt that wracked up against the others, it just wasn't worth lots of 7 or above. I think that is my main problem. The photos I take, in and of themselves, as a body of work, are good, and even great according to those who see them. However, I just can't seem to get it right during a challenge.

(After Rollover) I guess it changed a little from when I checked it. I usually don't look at scores. I looked once a day or so ago, so apparently it went up.

How did you go from a 5.3 to a 6.17 in only a couple of hours!??
06/23/2009 10:47:02 AM · #374
After reviewing my score, it appears that I have 23 scores of 4 and below... was that really necessary? I mean I know there are trolls but come on! I think it's funny how my score PLUMMETED from 6 to 5.8 in the last 30 minutes of voting.

I've sometimes gained pointage in rollover and sometimes lost. This one was unusual for me in that my vote count held through rollover.
