I personally think the comment was made as a troll like comment and I am not 100% sure you are serious, so I am not sure it's worth replying to.

"Duotone" is a term specific to the offset printing trade. In offset printing, black is an ink color. What *else* could you call it? Color specialists and academic types can make a distinction and say that it's technically not a color, but in the practical, printing world it assuredly is.

ok, I see what you are saying...I am only referring back to the "old days" (when I was in school) when neither white nor black are colors...I see your point although...

I really think mine should be doing better. Not because its mine but based on what I would vote on it. (I figured around a 6 anyways). Of course that's my opinion and results may vary.

If you do not agree with the description given you are among frinds but to apply your description over the one given for the challenge is a little inflexible. Most people will use the description as guidance on what is acceptable. Really makes no difference to me my image tanked anyways, but IMO there are some good images being voted norrow mindedly because people do not feel the decription is correct which to me is not fair. Your gripe should be with SC's description not the photogs that followed the description!

It's all about interpretation. People vote in all different manner for many different reasons. Not going to list all I've seen though out the years. The way I'm reading the description is B&W, with sepia, B&W, with any other color, backed my the name of the challenge as Duotone. Right or wrong. I shouldn't have to change my thinking or vote because someone else has a different interpretation, which makes me confused on the statement of not being fair?

Well to put it another way the description is quite clearly stating that B&W or Sepia is permitted, so if the title read "Pigs" and the description read "Take a picture of a Pig, a Dog is fine too" the way you are going with your reasoning is that if someone enters a shot of a Pig they get marked normally however if they enter a picture of a Dog they should be marked down.
06/17/2009 06:54:58 PM · #261
Maybe not,,,,if the dog was 400 pounds and was eating a 100 cupcakes all at one time, I would consider the dog a pig....Lol. (I don't see the word "or".)

I would say that I goofed and and mine is maybe not a doutone tone, but this score is not any different from any of my others.
Have not Zinged anyone BTW!!! ;-)

The word "or" is not there a comma is which is then followed by another comma and etc, meaning to me a list, had the meaning been b&w and sepia together been the intention then I would have expected there to be no comma and the "and" to be included.

Again I don't know why I let myself get drawn in to these discussions and I am still not 100% sure whether you are serious or just trying to act troll like and get a rise ;)

I did suspect as much, your average was very good as I observed earlier, troll like activities tend to go with troll like averages ;)

My score did drop by .2 though with a 1 vote so I checked your whole port looking to find out which shot could be yours so I could retaliate!

Oh that's so not true by the way LOL I have spent most the evening doing CC critiques... :)

People do tend to look for any excuse to lower their vote, personally with the poor wording I like to give people the benefit of doubt especially with all the language barriers people may face on wording.

Challenge description is correct. The black and white they talk about is a black and white duotone which is different from a black and white monochrome.
