Hawkeye comes through yet again :) One of the unsung heroes of DPC, for sure!
I didn't enter one of my top faves. Some of them I lost the originals for in my Great Crash of '07. But the biggest problem was that I just got a new lcd monitor and now everything that I liked before looks awful and terribly noisy to me. Am I being overcritical or are they really that bad?? So I picked one that's a pretty picture. I DO like it, it just doesn't have any special connection.
Which brings up another question. What to do when nature doesn't look natural? I've gotten expected comments on one aspect of my entry that actually does look like it looked for real, but doesn't look like it should. So do I show it as it was or as we expect it should look? |

You do realize that Judi is on vacation right now and has assured people that she'll be making 900+ and 1000+ graphics to tie in to her usual ones right? hehe. I mean, how many graphics do we need? |

Nope... didn't know that. Didn't even know Judi had made those other ones. But there was a request and I offered. No one has to use it if they don't want to. Won't hurt my itty bitty ducky feelings one little bit, Chopper.
EDIT: I pulled my image from the thread to avoid stepping on Judi's turf. It's her deal to do with as she sees fit.

I would update it to say over 1100 comments or something. Even though making 1000 is great, that last hundred can be the hardest. :) |

Since eyewave went ahead and made one, I guess Judi's exclusive claim isn't there...
So here's mine again if anyone wants. Thanks for the kind comments on it.

I am stunned, shocked and blown away that people have committed to commenting on all of the shots. I had a crazy notion of doing it myself, but just looking through the photos I was overwhelmed and daunted at the prospect.
So heres the deal I would like to offer.
Out of all the people that comment 100% in this challenge , I will stick all there names in a hat and pull out 8.
I will buy them a years membership here. They can use it for themselves or give it away to someone else if they do not want to use it themselves.
so thats the deal. 8 memberships for a year for commenting on the whole enchilada pie. |

Hi Juliet I can't be as generous as you are ... however if you pull 9 names I'll kick in for that ninth one. Please just let me know who it is by PM and consider it done.
Thanks for the suggestion, great idea.

Has anyone considered with this number of entries that it would be a good time to have some Honorable Mention ribbons. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and maybe 3 to 5 HM? We could definitely fit 5 images across the front page. Hmmmmm?
Just a thought!
Originally posted by langdon: Wow, can you believe it? I've just scheduled the one-thousandth challenge! That's a pretty huge milestone. The challenge is set for roll over tonight and was scheduled in place of our normal Exclusive Challenges. That means there will only be one challenge this Wednesday... but don't worry! It's a challenge that absolutely every user on DPC will be able to participate in.
And that's the idea... we want absolutely everyone possible to participate! We've scheduled a challenge that is so open and accessible, that we're hoping to make it our most-participated-in challenge ever! Here are the numbers we're hoping to beat:
Best Of 2005
Total Number of Entries: 829
*** Update *** Record broken: 1130 entries
Total Number of Comments: 18,062
*** Update *** Record broken: 18,119 comments (as of Mar 12th, 11:00 am)
Total Number of Votes: 359,220
Nude III
Average Number of Votes Per Entry: 385
Masters' Free Study
Average Number of Comments Per Entry: 72
It won't be an easy task, but I know it's possible, and we just can't do it without your support! So get your submissions ready and turn on keyboard voting to prepare for voting and commenting next week. We've got this!
If you have a moment, I urge you to browse our rich history, and view our beautiful archives! Also, I threw together a new page accessible via the Photos/Browse menu where you can page through all of our award-winning entries to date! And for those of you with Cooliris (formerly PicLens), you can browse all the winners full screen.
For some extra information related to this milestone, the Help/About page currently reads the following: "To date, 104,333 users have submitted 203,866 photographs to 999 challenges." The actual number if you factor in all of the removed entries is 205,466 -- that's an average of 205 entries per challenge!
I really want to thank all past and present Registered Users, Members, and Site Council.
Seriously... THANK YOU.
Without your interest and dedication over the past 7 years, none of this would be possible!
All the best,
Langdon |
