Congratulations...I am so pleased to see you doing well.

Yep, I'm already with ya on that.

My own score is at a 4.5 and a comment

Yayyyy...I think this is something we can all build on. It will either increase our score averages (from people not wanting to leave so many comments) or it will give us all more comments. Mind you, there are people out there who don't care either way...well we can't help everyone...but even if we help one person...it is worth it. And the ones that DO comment will have the benefit of learning from their own studies on the images that they comment on.

I've been getting a head start on this with the freestudy challenge and so far I've received 3 PM's from people who have thanked me for helping to explain why their scores are lower than expected (though I'm not only commenting on the low votes). I'm sure my comments are not always consistent with other voters, but it's nice to know that my comments have been appreciated.

Considering I woke up to <4.8 I shouldn't perhaps complain too much...

intersting thing is, this challenge's ID is 1000.. Is it 1000th challenge on DPC?

:D

Went up over night. (I'm trying to get past the "don't post or it goes down" superstition.)

No. Some numbers were skipped for various reasons.

Hi all, I dont usually post my scores, they change so much during a given challenge...I am wondering though if anyone else is noticing how very few WHITE backgrounds with Light subjects there really are? Am I the only one who tried to take the "assignment literally" I dont usually do DNMC, but I am giving a lot of low scores to photos in this challenge b/c they didnt hit it, IMO

anyone comments or observations?

Thanks all
Anni

I kind of thought this might be a personal best for me, but I see I was mistaken:

Still, not so bad. Pretty much as long as I'm above a five I'm pretty content :) I can only hope that it will go up from here. I haven't looked at the other entries yet either.

Just to add my take on the comments thing, now-a-days I never vote a photo under a 5 without leaving a comment, even if it's short, because I wish that were how people treated my entries as well. Just something to consider. I'm not saying it has to be mandatory, because I don't think that would really fix the problem (I forsee a lot of comments like "b/c is sucks" rather than constructive criticism) but even if just the people who are involved in this thread did something like that, I think that lower scoring entries would get enough feedback that they would be able to improve for the next challenge. Just my $0.02.

Well!! True!! my image could be one of them. :) I like the way you have chosen, to give low scores. But on second thoughts though, (along with giving low score), wouldn't it be appropriate to notify the photographer about this by putting a comment? I feel, that will give them (incl me) to learn and apply this learning in future challenges.

Thanks & Cheers,
Vj

A subjective choice, I think. For me, if the background is even an off white or most of the background is white, it works. Grays, blacks, or obvious dark shades are points off.

I agree with this statement.....I took the challenge literally and my score is around 5.3 Not that great! It seems some people photographed "white on light" rather than "light on white".

challenge description cannot be taken literally, makes no sense as written. therefore everyone is 'interpreting'.

Almost like many of my old days in the Navy... went to bed at 2 with a 10 and woke up at 10 with a 2.
