I've been dropping all day as well. Voters must be cranky.

I'd really like mine to creep over into a 6, but I don't think it will.

Started in the low 6's, dpropped as low as the 5.3 but came back nicely. I thought this had a chance to make my front page (needs to beat 5.9655) but I'll be happy if this holds. It's doing better than anything I've entered in a while.

Going back to what a few are saying about dnmc, I haven't been on here in a year or so and I have come to the understanding that there is a lot more arguing about things on here now. I think if they take the time to tell us what they want in a challenge that we should try, the best of our abilities, to take a picture inside the lines of the challenge. If one sees that they have a great photo and it didn't meet the challenge, then enter it into the free study, thats what it's for. This site has become a battle ground in the few years I have been gone. What happened? We are all here to learn and have FUN!!! Within the first few pictures I commented on I received a very argumentative email stating how they didn't appreciate my comment!?!? My comment wasn't mean or nasty, I don't beleive in doing so, but I think all should lighten up and not take things so personally. Make this a fun and learning site again. If we didn't have challenge topics to follow then there wouldn't be anything to look forward to each week! I used to love this site and the blogs, but now it's just depressing...

I have to tell you that I love that I am now getting comments (as few of them as I'm getting) but I just had to share this one. I don't even know why people would make a comment like this. No comment would work so much better. LOL

"why would someone want a picture of that? your not cool!"

Shocked, stunned, and almost speechless...lest I break the spell.
Looks like I am heading toward a PB.

Yea. If I can pull off this PB and then get hotpasta's MOJO back before he notices it's missing.....
03/03/2009 01:39:39 AM · #18
I was kinda hoping for a PB but... that doesn't look like that's gonna happen....
03/03/2009 01:37:27 AM · #19
Well, dropped only slightly now from 6.75ish to 6.65ish which would still be a personal best :-)

It is not my usual style of image/photography however--so it kinda says something about my normal style, don't it? :-)

I shouldn't complain but I made the mistake of falling in love with my entry so now I'm heart broken at it's performance.

Naturally :-)

"Pure white" backgrounds is not the issue for me. I'm referring to shots that have used extreme contrast to achieve "white", which usually reduces the quality and detail of the subject at the expense of creating the illusion of white.

In any event, you sound like a seasoned pro, and probably see things I - a beginner - do not.

I am about as far from a pro as one can get :) I just happened to read an article by a pro that described how to get white backgrounds in your photos.

Doesn't seem to be doing me a lot of good though. My main subject is almost white, but has some darker elements to it. Cool to get a fav even though not many comments. But I can't complain as I have not taken time to comment on any photos yet either. But I will.

I agree with the comments about calibrated monitors and LCD screens. I use a Huey to calibrate the CRT on my main computer, but when I view photos on my wife's laptop I never know if I am seeing things correctly or not.
