I can often identify the wide-angle work of jblaylockrayner, our resident paparazzo and celebrity portraitist...

... and chronicler of life in and around Southern California:

I was happy to be mentioned in the thread and try to figure out whether I have any style or not. I always hear that people can quickly pick my work out of the line-up...

I know that I gravitate towards certain "characters" as aliqui put it, because they take me back to New York's older times (in my life). As the city's been getting whitewashed over the last 15 years I've been trying to grasp the energy that I believe made the place great. So, I would understand an "emotional signature" coming through in my work and I assume there's a common thread in the way I shoot them but I'm not too sure about the second part "stylistic signature". But as I look at hundreds and hundreds of Street images and Street portraiture I don't think my stuff looks exactly the same as other work. As stare at my own images for hours and their particulars. that's where it's impossible for me to see clearly.

Bear, I'm curious what you think as you have delineated?

ETA: Unique's a pretty big word...isn't it? It's hard to say any ones unique as most of what we do is derivative, one way or the next but I suppose we can bring something original or special to the party every now and again...?

How do I define style...

thanks for the mention in this thread :)

I'm gonna go ahead an nominate Nixter...

Deep contrast... the position of isolated figures... original angles... poignant street pictures... all of these characterize Nick's work, I highly recommend rummaging through his portfolio
