I just love her self-portraits and her use of B&W and overlays. Self portraits are probably my fave, so maybe I'm biased...

I'm not complaining here or anything, not at all, but it's interesting how this thread is starting to morph from the identification of photographers whose work is instantly recognizable without their name appended to it into a thread in praise of of photographers-whose-work-I-like, so to speak. We're a long way adrift from the topic already: "Name the photographers with unique styles"...
I mean, I love Brad like a brother (and I'm only mentioning him because he's the latest on this list) but what on EARTH is unique about his "style"? The thing about Brad, and a lot of really good photographers for that matter, is that he adjusts to what he's working on. That's one of the marks of pro at photojournalism, that he will let subject define the style it needs, and he will remain faithful to that. But you can't easily pick a "Brad shot" out of a lineup for that reason.
Muur88 on the other hand, you come across one of those and you say "Oh yeah, muur did that one!", which is what I took to be the (very interesting) point of this thread. (Also only mentioning muur88 because I can see his stuff in the abbreviated reply queue, LOL; there have been a number of unique photographers mentioned of course).

I have to disagree...I have been able to pick out many of his images in the challenges...so to me, that says he does have a style and one that does stand out. He manages to capture emotion within am image that is very difficult to do under those circumstances. You may not think so...but that is why different photographers appeal to different people. There is nothing wrong with your opinion of his style or even if you think there isn't one...but don't disregard someone elses opinion!

OH, he's GOOD at just what you say, and you can often identify a work of his for that reason, but that's not a "style" in my book, it's an "ability", and it carries through his work even though the work encompasses many styles. Yes of course that is okay! One persons opinion of what is a style is different to another person...and for that reason, I am not going to get into a debate as to what is and what isn't...so I will just leave it there and look forward to seeing what others feel are unique styles in this case!

I have to agree with Bear_Music, but I'll also add that threads like this are probably 'doomed' to become "This is my favorite photographer" type threads because realistically, there are extremely few people that truly have a unique style.
Most people are going to be mere emulators, and the ones that really do find a style of their own are as rare as they come. One in a Million as they say.
I have to say that simply having a recognizable editing technique, or models, isn't a style in and of itself. A true style would encompass many things and be fairly consistent across most of the work being done.
So all the power to it being a "I like this photographer's work!" thread, because otherwise we'd have 4 or 5 posts and it would die. lol. |

| By the way, I picked SandyP for this thread because I do indeed recognize her work. So to me, she has a "style". There are others who have, for me, recognizable work - I can usually pick out pictures by RKT, nixter, and Sherpet, for instance. |

Recognizable across genre.
