Whichever way you tilt the lens, the sweet spot moves. Tilt it left, the right side goes blurry, tilt it down and the top goes blurry. That's all it is, in a nutshell... Then the aperture disks control the amount of blur, more or less; the smaller the aperture, the larger the sweet spot.

I started getting that figured out, but I need a bit more light for my poor old eyes to find somewhere it might be in focus. I did get a pretty good shot of straws at Starbucks with the 5.6 disk in. I spared you guys that one as well. :-) |

You never have to apologize around here. With these side challenges, it's like we are a family, and if you don't remember a birthday card, or you forget to come to Ma's on Sunday for dinner, we don't even think twice about it. No worries, brother!! :~) |

I was seriously considering getting one this week but instead, I got my crown on my tooth and I about flipped out when they said how much I had to pay. I hate insurance. (but I love my dentist)
I think it will have to wait a bit longer. DARN IT |

A couple from today.
The exposure with lensbaby seems to turn out all over the place. This (second) one came out really dark, even compared to others in the set, in which the focus was nowhere. At other times I have had photos come out way overexposed. Is there anyway to control this with lensbaby other than shooting manual?

Gina, I use Aperture Priority & 3 bracketed exposures (normal, -2/3 & +2/3). This nearly always gives a useable exposure (sometimes three!). I think that because the LBO and LB2 are both kinda unpredictable, especially when wide open, or when shooting against the light, or when shooting on any day ending with a "y", that you can't rely on just the one 'normal' auto-exposure. I pay a lot more attention to exposure than I do to focus ... which I suppose is why my stuff is so blurry.
Also, different (and unexpected) effects seem to appear at different exposures. So sometimes it's nice to have the choice of serendipities.
I make up for my file-hungry process by shooting in hi-res JPEG (rather than RAW) when using Lensbaby.
Edit to Add: If I'm shooting something that I "really, really want", I then take a peek at the histograms of the 3 exposures I've made (I refuse to say "chimp" ... oh, dammit, I said it!), and then if necessary I use the exposure compensation control (easy on my camera) to wind the whole three exposure settings up or back, and then I shoot the three bracketed shots again. Of course that doesn't work too well if photographing Formula One races. But it's OK for horses. Slow ones.

you have no idea how much I love how you phrased that...I'm a big serendipity fan. :)
bracketing - what a great idea - tripling my serendipities! |

SO WELL SAID! That's why I LOVE side challenges - you're my kind of people! Fluid, relaxed, accepting, forgiving - cruisy! |

Gina, I noted the same thing with exposure you mentioned during my brief foray into Lensbabyness. I ended up shooting completely in manual, but I really like Paul's idea of bracketing. May be ever so slightly quicker than the manual fiddling. |

Another one two from the trip to the department store. No sweet spot anywhere to be found but I swear I saw one somewhere in the viewfinder....
