Hi everybody,
Yesterday my dad rider hit a deer riding his bike: . He had just got it a month ago or so. He's in the hospital no real serious injuries, a broken right hand (I'm sure the shutter finger will still work!), a sprained left ankle, and he had a small amt of bleeding on his brain which is why he's still in the hospital, just for observation & to be careful. He's been awake & everything through the whole thing. I just thought if anybody had a chance to post a few pics of some nature shots, or bikes or anything it might cheer him up when he gets home. And thankfully all his camera gear which was in the hard case on the back of the bike is ok to the best of my knowledge anyway, I haven't checked each lens on the camera yet but the camera turned on & all the lens' looked ok. I think he'll have a few days off work to recover so he'll need something to read & keep him busy! :)
I know everyone on here is always willing to post a few thoughtful words & photos to go along with them. Hopefully he'll be taking pictures again in no time :)

Here's a nature shot from Arizona! Hope he can make it out here with his bike when he's recovered.

Wishing your dad lots of bounce-back and hope the bike is reparable.

My best motorcycle story.

I lived in Washington DC at the time. I was working late, it was winter, there was ongoing snow. When I got off work at 2am I didn't like the looks of things but decided to ride home anyway. I had a Suzuki GS1150ES as my only form of transportation. I'd been thru a lot with that bike. I figured if I took it slow & easy, I would get home before my fingers froze. The snow was about 2 in deep on the street & coming down fast. I had a helmet with a face shield, which I had to keep clearing of snow w/one hand.

The best part: I came to an overpass, saw a lot of tail lights. Figured uh-oh & oh well if I dropped the bike maybe I could get a ride. I continued puttin' along in 2nd gear, splitting the lanes (I didn't want to stop, if I put one foot down in the slush I thought the bike would slide out from under me) & as I made it to the overpass I saw the reason for the traffic tie-up was some fool in an old car with bald tires spinning around on the ice. Two cop cars had arrived to try to get him off the overpass & back on the road. I still smile when I recall their body language (too dark to see their faces) as another fool on a motorcycle went puttin' slowly by, threading between the cars, over the overpass & on down the other side. ha-ha!

I got safely home but my knuckles were white (fear). It took a couple of hours to calm down. I was sound asleep by 4am or so.

I wish a speedy recovery to your Dad, & 60,000 more miles of fun on his bike.

Here's hoping for a quick recovery!

Dang! Heckuva typo in the thumbnail - really sorry that one doesn't exist here anymore. The one I meant to post, in keeping with the wildlife theme, was this one. Apparently a couple of years ago I was a much better photographer than I am now. :-)

Take a good nap.

Go bikin' again.

But this time, watch out for the locals on the road : )

Get well soon Chuck.

Ouch! I probably would have reacted the same way if I caught a deer riding my bike. They mess up the leather something fierce. Perhaps he could get a little virtual revenge by changing his username from Rider to Hunter. It's available. ;-)

I shall meditate upon the sacred leaf for a speedy recovery. Ohmmmm....

Thank goodness it sounds like he will be okay. Still, I'm sorry to hear he was hurt at all. When he looks at this thread, he can be thankful he didn't hit any of these:

I am happy that he is going to be ok.
I had to smile about your opening line for this thread " My dad hit a deer riding his bike" I had this mental picture of a guy punching a deer that is sitting on a bike LOL.

Egads! Sorry to hear about the accident, but glad to hear he's doing better. Reading your note prompted me to go digging through the archives to see if I had a picture of you guys from the Rickett's Glen GTG :)
