...
Since this is the last day of the month, these are the last new flowers to be posted by me.
But, you know this has been so much fun and so interesting,
that, if anyone wants to continue for another
month, I'd sure participate. I feel as if I'm just getting beyond the "portrait" stage
of flower photography and getting into the 'interpretive' stage.
This Side Challenge has been an inspiration in that regard, and I thank all the people
who have been showing images and especially Sherpet who instigated the
whole thing.
This Side Challenge is another example of - not only learning by doing - but learning by
seeing how others approach the same project.
Thank you, Shez.
ETA: HaHa. See what being retired does to you? I thought this was the 31st.
ONE MORE DAY! ONE MORE FLOWER!

I am kind of sad in a way, as we enter our final day of this awesome 'flower side challenge'.
You have all done so well, and I feel me have produced so many amazing and beautiful images of flowers, that we all should all have a beautiful portfolio with all your floral images added to bring so much more happiness to this world, and to you.
FLOWERS really make the world a much better place to be.
Their color, their structure and shape, their differences, their perfume, and of course their BEAUTY.
I wonder if we could just have a continuous FLOWER thread and just add flowers whenever we wish to, and not necessarily every day, but just when we want to.
Let me know what you think..... |

I believe this was attempted last Aug when we did the flower challenge then too. It fizzled out after a while. Of course, flowers are seasonal.
I would be up for it, I love flowers.
During the winter we can do more playing with the last seasons shots.

Shez, it's mid summer here in Florida. We have some flowers but for us this is the least "flowery" part of the year. During the late fall and winter is our best time for them here. I like your suggestion, and will be posting flowers in my portfolio during the winter months here to help cheer up our snowbound friends. If I see a thread like that, I will post them there as well.
Here's one for the end of the month. It's wild flowers along a roadside drainage ditch a couple of days ago.
I didn't have much time this August to post and comment, but enjoyed it when I was here with everyone for a few days. Thanks everyone.

shez...i need to thank you for proposing this side challenge. it really did make me get off my lazy butt and get out and make use of my camera.
here's my final submission to this awesome side challenge. it's another "in your face" and "up front" shot...subjective and phallic all at once, and all together happy since that's what flowers are all about..happiness :)
(disclamer: dont mind this rant, since i'm drunk at the moment..but the thankfullness for this great challenge is truly heartfelt, so thanks again shez)
aloha to all

THIS is a GREAT IDEA.....
I LOVE to see EVERYONE PICK their 'three' favorites out of their '31 days of flowers', as suggested by drydoc
Originally posted by drydoc: REMINDER to EVERYONE
Sunday night, August 31st starting at 12 midnight, begin posting what you feel are three (thumbnails) of your very best entries into the Flower side challenge. (Can post anytime after 12:00 p.m.) Stick to the format of posting- each of them side by side with no comments:
thumbnail...... thumbnail......thumbnail
If everyone participates and sticks to the format, we should end up with a ribbon of flowers for sherpet to print out. 50 participants times three flowers each. . . 150 gorgeous presentations! [All participants- You do not have to be one of the original 50.]
Start picking out your selections. |

This has been great fun! I thank everyone for all the wonderful comments, and I still owe a bunch of you comments. My son goes back to school Thursday so don't be surprised to see a bunch of comments going out then. |

....... .......
The 'other' flower season is about to begin here in Alabama, from Sept. through Nov. So, if another FlowerPower thread started up, I would have some shots to post. I would like to experiment with more emotive flower shots, more abstract, maybe even storytelling flower shots. I prefer to shoot outdoors, in the botanical garden, & this fall I plan to experiment more with a variety of reflecting BG surfaces. As I experiment with my flower photography it is both gratifying & helpful to receive comments from other flower photogs. I greatly value the comments I've received this month, it will be hard to give it up! Thank you . sherpet. for starting this thread & thank you everyone for all the favorites & comments.

I am sorry I couldn't finish the assignment. Life got a bit crazy, with school starting, work being work, and all. I will try and stop by and comment a bit more, but I want to thank sherpet for organizing this great side challenge. I hope to 'posterize' selected shots from the month and will post here when done. |
