Cheers guys, and thanks very much to those who have commented on my image so far :)

I will try to make comment on all the people, slowly, but i will do. I am not sure if they would be useful or not though.

I thought this shot turned out fairly well ended up with a 5.4
I was gonna use it for the bird challenge but decided on another which ended up scoring slightly worse. I like the pose of the goose and how the neck looks in the light. I also thought the negative space worked well. I wasn't expecting a ribbon or anything just thought it would of scored alittle higher....

I love this one because of colors. I love colors and I am shameless to admit it.
It is not typical technically great pic but it is something one could hang on walls. It would definitely pleasure one's eyes.

Thanks for the comments so far and it seems that the faults in this photo are the very same things that I love about it. I love that the storm cloud is so low and grey and there's so much very blue sky above it, I love that the land looks so small and insignificant compared to the approaching storm and I love that even the sunset is dwarfed. This was shot during a week of extreme coastal weather warnings and damaging storms and this shot seems to me to show how small we are when faced with weather like that. But obviously I failed to show that in the photo :(

So far, my only critique has been that it's too noisy and the composition is just weird. I was hoping it might score a new pb, but it fell short at a 5.5. I really like it...

I love this shot because it captures a sunset. A specific technique was used to catch my idea of a sunset rather than just the sunset itself, and the picture is in a way a fusion of those two things. So I don't know if the image is as good as it could be, but I love it because I feel I've achieved what I wanted to achieve with it - capturing a feel, rather than just a picture.

Willie The Pimp (Harlem, 2008)

I thought a few people might appreciate seeing a true to life Pimp as opposed to the "made for TV" ones (i.e. Huggy Bear etc.) but no deal. I had a more contrasty edit, posted here but got scared away from entering that one due to members lack of monitor calibration. I also left in the ladies elbow because it was there...occasionally in real life you get thrown an elbow, so what's the big deal??? That's the shot as I took it and I hoped the voters would know the rocks it took to fire off a few shots at a Pimp crossing ones path less than 25 feet away.

Here is mine. I liked the way the dusk light up the mountain top across the valley from where I was. Unfortunately I had to keep the trees in the lower portion (to hide the city below :p) In hindsight as several have pointed out more sky and less dark trees would have improved it (or vise versa but I really liked the sky colors). Thanks for the comments thus far!

I like the more contrasty one better, but I think the biggest difference was the black background of your site. I'm wondering if a black frame instead of white wouldn't have made a tiny bit of difference on dpc. I couldn't tell a huge amount of difference with the shots side by side.

Thanks figaro! I'll comment on my group and as many others as possible...

i was reactionary. 5 minutes after the challenge ended, i posted my photo in another thread and asked for comments. sorry. most of my group has commented on my photo already. i will get my comments in the next couple of days. i have company from out of town but i will start asap.

i really liked mine just because it's my beautiful mountain. i live in the foothills at the base of it. i thought that i had composed it nicely and had put the moon in the 'thirds', but maybe i don't quite understand what in the photo is supposed to be in the 'thirds'.

It is certainly within the thirds. Problem is that this stuff is soooo subjective. I've had comments on some photos where a characteristic that one commenter loves is a major negative to another. Best you can do is to digest it all, and use it as a learning tool, but don't take it too much to heart. Even the best shots here get some low votes flung there way in the challenges. It's hard to know what criteria people are using.

I have also found in the last few challenges that the negative comments coming my way are often regarding flaws I was already aware of before voting even started. I take that as a good sign.
