Ryan Bruce David Johnston - was born on the 6th August 1972, in Melbourne Australia. We were blessed to finally see him some 19 months later, as he is our first choosen child.
Yes, both of our children are adopted. I lost two babies in the early stages, and was advised to adopt, due to complications with both pregnancies.
Ryan was such a placid happy child, and was much loved by both of us, and our family and friends. He was born, not short statured but with several disabilities. He has club feet, which to this day, he still walks on his toes. His heels have never touched the ground.
During his early years he had to have many operations to help correct his disabilities. One time when he was in year 6, he had surgery on his legs and was in plaster from his feet to his waist. He was in a wheelchair for three to four months. We didn't think he would ever walk again, but he proved us wrong. With all of his disabilities, we are so proud of him.
He did well at school, and was boy cub, and also a scout, and even a venturer, receiving his bronze, silver and gold badges.
His biggest pleasure in life, when growing up, was when our second child, Blake came into our lives, when he was ten years and one day old.
Ryan got an traineeship at 16 years of age, and left home to go to work some 300 kilometers away. We were lucky, as he boarded with his Uncle and Aunty. He has always been able to get work.
At 26 years of age he finally meet the girl of his dreams. Lauren is of short stature like Peter and I, and she is now a much loved member of our family. They were married in April 2005, and last February presented us with our first grandchild, a boy, called Judd Ryan Johnston, who is now 6 months old, and the love of our life.
Blake Maurice David Johnston, was born on the 7th August 1972, exactly 10 years and one day after his older brother Ryan. We were so blessed to have been able to have our much loved choosen second son, in our arms at the age of seven and half weeks. He was born in Adelaide so I had to fly interstate both times to pick up our children, and often refer them as "airport babies", as the stork didn't bring them to hospital, like other babies.
Blake was acrondoplasia, and of short stature, like us. Our limbs are shorter (arms and legs) than the average person, and we also have a larger head size, (more brain power I say,) and our body is of normal size.
His dark brown eyes were what made Blake so lovable. We were now a family at long last and so happy to be blessed with two wonderful choosen children. They have both brought so much joy into our lives and gave us a reason to enjoy our lives totally and completely.
Blake was a very happy child growing up, and made many people laugh. Blake and his Father both loved all types of sport, and have a wonderful close relationship even to this day, and always talk about sport. Blake left home at 17 years of age and enjoys life to the max.
He is now living in Melbourne, like Ryan, and very happy with his life.
We are blessed to have two wonderful sons whom we dearly love and think the world of. We are very proud parents, and grandparents, and are lives would be empty without them in it.
We travel to Melbourne whenever we can, and they also come up to visit us here in Caloundra whenever they can. Life is pretty special when you are a family.
I hope you enjoyed our story of our much loved sons..... Thank you.

Another thing - Mary commented on my mosque picture that it would be nice if this compound could eventually be enjoyed by the Iraqi people. I would also like to think that this is the plan. When Saddam was here, only his closest buds were allowed to share in this place from what I hear. It would indeed be nice if it could be restored and turned over as someplace the average Joe (though probably not named Joe) could visit. To be honest, though, while the structures here look elegant and rich, they were not, in my opinion, built to last, nor are the building materials of good quality. The interior of the Palace appears to be all marble, but closer inspection shows it to be a think marble veneer type stuff over a cage/chicken wire type structure.
It is a fascinating place. There are geese here that have probably been here since Saddam's time (well, not the same geese, of course, but from the same line.) There are eucalyptus trees, olive trees, and palm trees. Many of which have died, sadly, since we're not irrigating anything, but the heartier of them are still growing. My favorite time of day is VERY early in the morning (about 5:30 AM or so) when I sit out on the porch, enjoy the bats, and if it's quiet enough (not too many trucks going by) I can hear the music for call to prayer from somewhere outside the compound. |

Agave Shakes; by sherpet re shez.....
First one must first find some excellent Agave plants...... here is one of my favorites..... Agave Blue.....
Secondly, we then must make sure we have a camera in habd. My chosen camera would be of course my, Canon EOS-350D Rebel XT or as a back-up my Kodak DX6490, but you can use your favorite camera.
We have two ways to make Agave Shakes.....
My first option to make an "Agave Shake", is that you must first take some photos of some agaves plants, and process them.....
When looking at an agave plants to photograph, one must make sure one looks at each and every side of the plant, and also don't forget the top, and also the underneath part.
That easy for me, as I am not that far off the ground, and often get my best shots from that angle.
Here are some more of my agave plants in my portfolio if you visit here..... Sherpets Agave Images or here Sherpets DPC prints
Here is my processed Agave image of an Agave Shake - which I have called "Agave Ripples".
My second way of making Agave Shakes is again two fold.
One can go out like I do sometimes, and take photos of an Agave plant, but when one processes it, it is is all out of focus, so I delete them right away, as I don;t want anyone to see that I sometimes make mistakes ,just like everyone else does.....
My other one is a secret, and one must email me to get the recipe of an Agave Shake cocktail, as I am still sampleing them, as it has to be perfect.
There you go, that my way to have an Agave Shakes..... |

Friendly wager... my entry is less friendly than yours. Whoever scores lower wins the wager. |
Its a deal! |
If I win you have to write a poem on my image. :P |
Ok, I am not sure how you managed to breach the DPC servers and discover exactly which photo was mine, then give it a 10, thereby skewing my score in order to win this bet. I cry foul!
This might be an issue for the SC to look into. And here I believed you were totally above board and honest. Oh how far our heroes can fall
;-) |
I am shocked our fearless leader let this one pass....

I was so sure this photo was not DPC user friendly. I was ready to bet my poetry writing skills on it. |

I chose Redneck as a username, (1) because, I is one, and (2) because it marks a different attitude towards my photography. Not that I̢۪m not going to try to improve my photography skills, but keeping things simple works for me. I hope you enjoy my take on what redneck means.

Hi Sherpet! Welcome to TS! If you like brownies I can send you a complimentary copy of my recipe...
Just entered Motivational Poster. Curious to see how it does as I actually entered a pic that I almost discarded. However the other pics had too much bg stuff so wouldn't have worked.
Ok gotta drive home now before big storm hits.
Bye for now

I have a problem as I don't know which team to join, as you are all so nice. I don't want to upset anyone, and also how do I know which team, re if all the members are happy to have me on board. Maybe you can help me please.
I been asked buy;
Entropy by NikonJeb
Team Novice by noraneko
Out of Focusers by hipychik
Maybe I should let our trusty leader posthumous decide for me.
Maybe someone else has a suggestion that could help me decide.

The strangest thing just happened. I got a PM from someone who recognized one of my photos as being her property. She joined the site just to tell me, and to say she liked what I had done with the photo. She must have googled her business name and my photo came up. Very strange.... but kind of nice too. |
