In August, team Chasing Butterflies had the least participation. This would be the most likely team for an undecided player.

I think Chasing Butterflies just got ephln last week...

but sherpet is of course welcome, I just meant we may have benefited from a new infusion of talent lately and should take a pass to give another team the opportunity

Ok, I've got a couple of extremely DPC friendly shots submitted this week. They're sharply in focus, they have shiny Kodak colours, they don't contain dead flies with traces of blood around them... I'm curious to see how they'll do. Don't worry, I'm not swearing off the Team Suck lifestyle, it's just a trial week :)

Hi Eve - thanks for your comment too. I guess the photo will be on www.kodak.com that day. So I may have to take a pic of my computer screen that day lol.

Hi all,

I finally got myself to do comments on TS images that were in backlighting (I had the highest TS score in that one, according to the scoring God). Sorry it's taken so long!

Best,

Rob

I may not win any awards, or have any paying photo shoots, but I have more than a few folks here asking for copies of the pictures I've taken so far so they can send them home to show people what this place looks like. That really makes my day!! :-)

I know I enjoy looking at your pictures Deb - so it's no surprise people want copies of them. It's wonderful that you have found a way for others to share in this experience!

That is quite the compliment Deb :D

So much of what is heard on the news about Iraq is very sad. Deb's photographs show other possibilities - even in a place in such a horrible situation there is beauty.

Enough, I think I need to go rant at a few senators and congress people.

Kind words, Mary. I don't follow the politics of it all, I just do what I'm asked to do and try to do it well. I will say that I'm in awe of the young people I see here who do the same, but with much more risk attached to their tasks. I go to the local Cinnabon (yes, we have vendors who set up shop here) and get a coffee every morning. If I go too early, there's no line. I like to go when there's a line. Yes, it means I have to stand out in the sun and get that lovely stream of sweat running quite enthusiastically down my back and the back of my legs, but it also means I get to chat with the other folks in line. I truly enjoy that.

Speaking of the vendors - this camp is a VERY large self-sufficient city. Power, water, housing, food. The support, which used to be a military function, is now provided by contractors. There are a lot of Americans and Europeans here working for those contractors, but the vast majority are "third country nationals" or foreign nationals. They come here because the money is better than what they can earn where they live, yet it's still less than what we'd pay Americans or Europeans to do the jobs. They're wonderful to talk to, they do their jobs VERY well (probably better than the average American would) with great enthusiasm and courtesy, and they live under the same conditions we do - they get food, housing, medical services if needed. Some work 12 or more hours a day, 7 days a week, and won't take a day off because the overtime is good money. That money goes home to their families. We do have local nationals (Iraqis) who work here as well, but under more austere conditions - they come in then go out. This is a very dangerous situation for them, but they do it anyway.

It's an interesting place. Much of it is stark and barren, but yes, there's beauty here to be found.

P.S. I must now pack. I have to get on a freakin' helicopter and go somewhere. I am not an Army guy. I don't DO helicopters... And I'm a freakin' pansy. The flight out is in the dark so no pics, but we come back tomorrow morning (hopefully) so maybe there will be pics to share at that point. Wonder if I can shoot without actually looking outside the helicopter?? :-)

Deb, be safe!

I just got a pleasant surprise, thanks to an observation ephln made in her comment on my Sacred entry: two shots were DQd, so I made the top 10. :) I've only done that one other time, out of 117 tries.
