My opinion is that it's being held up because some recent issues have required us to look at some possible modifications or clarifications to the rules -- it wouldn't be a good idea to do that mid-season.

Besides, as noted in some recent threads, we've had to spend an inordinate proportion of our time policing members thoughts, distracting us from the discussion of any changes needed for DPL Season Two.

be a shame to loose the bacon boys so soon....

This may sound odd, as you Hogs kept our team from any chance at winning our division, LOL, but competing against you really helped us (or maybe I should say me - don't want to speak for the rest of my team) ratchet it up a notch. I was shocked at how much I could improve with feedback from my team and competitive drive. Bring it, Hogs!

Catherine, you're not staying with the plan. You know, "Hogs, you rock. You couldn't possibly lose. No one is as awesome as you." Then they get overconfident and slack off, and we stop 'em cold.

But sshhhhh ... don't tell anyone our secret plan!

Well, if that isn't the most offending remark I've heard all day. And to come from a SC I'm gonna start a tick..*(***** BZZZZZZZZ errrpopsdifjioasd

That's cool General. Lovely humor. I love it. drool..... I love everything the SC does. They're perfect.

Any news on the start date? There are lots of people who are very intersted in getting the next round started. Please start it soon or I my end up going insane from anticipation.

Well personally, I'd like to see the hogs each spread their talent across the team pool. Not concerned competitively, but I think the benefit is in the team interaction. By mixing up among the teams, a lot of people can learn from them.

And looking at it from their perspective, I think being a member and sort of a "coach" on a more "balanced" team, and seeing whether they can help ratchet up the team a notch or two directly, would be more personally rewarding than winning.

I'll ditto that thought.

Okay,

Here's an novel idea. How about releasing information on the DPL on a weekly basis. Any information would be nice. Even a "We're still discussing the rules more to come next week. We haven't forgotten you...really." would be nice.

Come on SC. The silent treatment isn't helpful. It's been a Looooooong time since the end of the DPL for most participants (aka those who did not make the playoffs).

Thanks for your consideration.

As far as I know, there's been no active SC discussion of a start date (or DPL in general) since around the end of August. There... now you're up to date. :-/

Any rumors on a date or how it will work this time that the site council might want to start on the DPL2 would be great as well.

Are we going to be able to see the results of the survey that we had asking about it as well?

There are a couple of things we are trying to iron out before we do dpl. The start date has not been discussed.

Results of the survey? I don't know.

Maybe the DPL should be taken back out the hands of DPC??

This delay is a shame and quite embarassing for the site. What's the problem??

thank you. :(

The "problem" is that we are trying to fix quite a few other things so that dpl will run smoother. Also, we are trying to fix several of the "problems" that arose by making dpl so much bigger than wpl. When we get those fixed, we will announce the starting date.

You've got to me kidding! Embarassing? Not hardly!!
This site is very well maintained and they are always keeping us informed and striving to improve. You need to apologize.

I'd prefer the admins and SC take their time and make use of what they learned from last time rather than having them rushing it.

For those asking for the survey results, Langdon posted the following in the thread about the survey back on Sept. 6:

The textual answers have been removed for privacy/confidentiality concerns.

You can filter the results by clicking on the number associated with the answer. Feel free to play around with different filters.

Oh, also ...
Karmat: ignore Hauxon. He's being ridiculous.
Hauxon: you're waaaaaay out of line. Feel free to set up your own site, on your time.

Thanks for posting this levy, I must have missed this earlier.

It just looks plain bad needing to postpone a popular thing like the DPL for so long because of the need to "fix few things", just sounds amateurish. Before DPC took over the WPL one guy with little programming experince maintained the whole thing. The most tireing thing for him was updating scores manually witch is done automatically at DPC. Most sites fix things while keeping things running. The most logical thing for DPC would be starting a new season and use the time until next season to "fix things". Just my perspective as a computer scientist and annoyed impatient amateur photographer. :)

Sounds like you've got it all sorted out. Maybe PM SC or langdon and offer up some of your skills rather than taking shots at the people who are working their tails off to keep this site going as a whole.

JMHO.

Of course when it was just one little guy doing it, there were also a limited number of who participated. There are other things to consider.

I know you guys are working hard to fix things but I hope you take into account what made the WPL a success in the first place, which was it's simplicity. You signed up because you wanted to compete. The team captain picked the division and everyone competed for one championship. Very simple. No reason why it can't be that simple again.

Doesn't look bad to me and I value the time that is being taken to try and fix things. I really cant see the value of your kind of post which is negative in the extreme (despite the smiley icon)

As was suggested before...If you think you can do better then why not set up an alternative (or better still even offer to help on this one!)

Poor form to trounce on Hauxon for stating the obvious. WPL ran fine for a long time with one guy at the reins. Rather than tell Hauxon to go start his own, why not ask DPC to give it back so an unofficial season can run under WPL while the DPL problems (whatever those are) are addressed. I'm sure someone would volunteer to run WPL.
11/12/2007 07:34:18 PM · #75
Well what's the unsolvable problem? Like Yanko said WPL was quite simple, what parts are making the complications?

Best, Hrannar
